Sometimes, you just have to smash things and burn the pieces...

(That's black and yellow electrical tape on the handle)

Good job. I fed my M43 some small pine trees today. They were growing too close to my fence and had to go. I can't seem to find my digi camera to take pics of the devastation.

It was on my land, without my permission. Nearby 'posted' signs were ignored. I'd pulled it down once before, put a posted sign right on this tree, and they built it back up again a few years later.

Don't get me wrong; I like to hunt myself, and I allow two different groups of folks to hunt my property. They all know where everybody is and they all know how to stay out of each others way.

Trespassing like this is just incredibly rude, and it's not like there is any reasonable way to mistake my place for public land. He knows he's being a jerk. I imagine he would be quite offended if he found me in one of his trees in his back yard without permission, but perhaps the irony would be lost on him.

The khuk in the pic is an M43? Hmm, looks uncharacteristic of the ones I've seen thus far.

As per the trespassers, have you considered filth-covered punji sticks? Heheh...

I bought it used, but I'm pretty sure it's an M43; it has the full tang, smooth handle, with metal exposed on top and bottom, held on with two rivets (currently wrapped in tape). I think the blade was at a bit of an angle in the photo, making it look a little narrower than it really is.

Nice work. I would've weakened it so it toppled over when they were in it. You are a nicer guy than me I guess, they got off easy as far as I'm concerned.

I like to put a few of these randomly buried in my back woods. Every once in a while I have to go clean up some mess but it's no biggie. I hardly ever get poachers any more.

Okay, that explains it. Not being able to see the rivets really threw me.

deer stands...aint nothing hunting about that...I have absolutely NO respect for any person who claims "hunter" and uses a stand, any jackarse fool can do that type of shooting:jerkit:..just make light cuts in the wood, cover cuts with stain and wait for the "sniper" to fall:D...one day we'll get a video posted up

Good job:thumbup:

Um...three thoughts...Hundreds of thousands of very fine hunters would disagree and would have little interest in earning respect from you. Maybe stating that you have the utmost respect for hunters that have the skill to track and stalk rather than standing would be a more intelligent statement.

Get rid of the "jerkit" it has no place on this forum.

Suggesting that a landowner make light cuts and stain over them to booby trap a trespassers stand is suggesting the landowner should hand over his property to the trespasser in the courts.

Hopefully I was misreading what was actually sarcasm and humor in your statement rather than what it seems to be in which case you have my apologies...except for the "jerkit."

I still stand by what I said and I could care less what any "tree stand hunter" thinks and I dont hide behind some fake name either... and if you dont like my chioce of Bladeforums.com Smilies then at the bottom of this page you can feel free to contact any of these Moderators and request this " :jerkit: " to be removed don't forget to go after all the other postings that have used it too, or is it just me?

C'mon guys lighten up.....everyone has opinions.
Here in the Cantina we respect them.
No need to derail a thread with argument.

I personally think that mike did the right thing by removing the stand and burning it so it can't be reused and if at all possible should prosecute the offender for trespassing. I'd also consider photographing the offender with one of those "critter cams" for proof in court. The hunter he caught was clearly in the wrong. As far as treestands go, they are a matter of preference and skill, i will offer he fact that treestands do take much of the "sport" out of hunting....nuff said. I personally am more worried about the "Jacking" of deer out of season and past tag limits, a practice which is far too common for my liking. As for the smiley, we don't take a dim view of it here, as long as it's not used in a vulgar manner or in anger personally at someone, it is after all only a smiley.

Let's see if I can be a little less offensive in saying it:
Yep, Mike did the right thing. Whether you like tree stands or not, the guy was tresspassing, and likely knew it. He deserved to have his stand destroyed. He also deserves a tresspassing charge if Mike catches him in the act.

As for treestanding goes, let me start by saying I HAVE NO MORAL/ETHICAL OBJECTION TO THEM. However, there is no such thing as "stand hunting". You are sitting around waiting for game to come in your kill zone. I say it isn't hunting because no hunting skills are used. Shooting skills are. Some of the shots that have to be taken (because you are not mobile and can't pick your shot, your shot picks you), stand hunters may well be very good shots. Different skill set. More like "tree stand ambushing" than "tree stand hunting." Again, I have no problem with people doing it ON THEIR LAND, OR ON LAND THEY HAVE PERMISSION TO SET UP ON.
