The pic shows a 17" 28 oz M43 with Hill Walnut handle by Bura (below) and an 18" 33 oz Shamsher (top) also by Bura, with chandan wood handle and white metal fittings:
The camera angle belies the fact that the Shamsher is a full inch longer than the M43. These are the largest in my stable, and despite the weight difference the two handle quite similarly. Perhaps the curved handle of the M43 has something to do with it; I have to work with both of them more in order to detect the subtleties. I noticed that one "point" of the butt on the M43 will "kiss" the outside of my wrist when in use. Straighter-handled khuks don't do this to me as much. All that said, I like them both and for different reasons -- another manifestation of each style and truly each individual knife having its own personality.
In the pic below an antler-handled Malla is shown above the Shamsher for comparison:
Finally, the "Heavyweight" Shamsher and M43 pose with a not-so-petite 15" BAS at bottom:
Probably going to have to get a FF somehow . . .
