Looking at pics of M43s, they seem like a blade I'd really like to get. My question tho is this: does the curve put more of the weight towards the tip of the blade as opposed to something like an AK with a shoulder?

In my experience with the m43, which is one of my favorite no frills kind of khuk, you'll find that it is pretty tip heavy. A lot of this has to do with the curve of the blade. I think you're right, although i've never given it thought before, but the AKs seem to be blade heavy while the m43s seem to be tip heavy, if that make's sense. It's a whole different kind of animal from other khuks. Try one, you'll like it i'm sure:) When I need an unbreakable, but lighter camp khuk, I take my m43. I like the fact that it has no handle rings. My hands a re kind of small, and I have yet to find a chiruwa AK where I wouldn't have to file down the steel part of the ring so it didn't bite my hand. The m43 takes care of that for me:)

Good luck!

Take a look at the Khukuri Dynamics page:

especially this picture:

You can see that the "overall curve" of the knife is very low, which accounts for it feeling more tip heavy.

Also, it's the bend in the handle that accomplishes this, moreso than the bend in the blade. But both contribute to a significant "drop".

Thanks for the input, I was curious to see what those who actually have the knife would say.

I've held both an AK and M43 side by side and they are completely different animals. The AK is a brute. The M43 is elegant. The AK is a long axe. The M43 is thick, curved, tough machette. The width of the belly of the blade helps create this effect.

Personally what I'd really like to see is a side-by-side test of an M43 and the new Foxy Folly's. Seem to be in a similar category. Anybody up for it?
