M43

Also, when I order one, is there a choice in handle materials as far as wood or horn?

Sent from the highways in hiding.

They come both ways, sometimes wood, sometimes horn.

If you're not in a hurry, keep watching the DOTDs and be quick to send Yangdu an email when you see one you like.

Or you can send Yangdu an email now and ask if she has one in stock. If so, she can give you the specs and you decide if it's for you.

Or you can order from the HI online store (which I never do). However, (a) it might not be in stock, and (b) all you see at the online store web pages are generic specs, not the length and weight of the exact M43 that might be available. The specs vary greatly for these blades because they are handmade with traditional methods, not produced by machinery.

M43, my favorite

I like/love my M43. Had it made and also engraved along the spine. Have also learned to throw it from about 20-25 feet away. A little tricky to do, but great fun. I'm sure you'll like yours should you be fortunate enough to snag one. They are worth the money and are hard corps work horses. Mrs. Martino will do you right, so contact her about your options.

M-43 is a wise choice.
Warm welcome to HI and blade forum!

The M43 is a great choice. It was my first as well. It more than likely would have served all my Khukri needs quite well all by itself. Unfortunately/fortunately (?) I developed an acute case of Himalayan Imports Khukri Virus and the rest is history. Thankfully it's not terminal unless a spouse finds out.
All that us said in jest, the history and pure very old school technology that produces these pieces of working art are wonders in and of themselves. Welcome aboard.

The M 43 was my first HI kukri, and is still serving me very well. Just be aware, betcha can't buy just one.

I just discovered my 18 inch M43 fits perfectly in the leather sheath which came with my Cold Steel Carbon V Gurkha Kukri.
The blades are almost the same shape and length.
My M43 has an overall thicker blade with a slightly longer handle.

I pick mine up Monday, I can't wait!!!!!!! Talk to Yangdu, she is da bomb!!!!!
