2.5 Leupold EER with 28mm aperture.

Cheap eBay mount...would spend the $ for the better one had I to do over.

Bayonet off, sling temporarily off. Rubber baby buggy bumper on.

Fine lookin' setup, Kis... say, is that the scope Smiley Bob had? How do you like? It's a Leupold.

That rifle's on its second life. Once it hunted Nazis, now deer. :D

I put the Mojo peeps on my M38.

Yup. That's Bob's.

It was my Christmas present to myself.

(subsequent gifts were blue loctite, a torpedo level, new set of allen wrenches, and a fair amount of aggravation. :) )

I did ok with the iron sights, so this is...extravagant. How are the mojo sights to install?

Mojo's are a snap. For the rear sight, you tap out the pin, replace with Mojo. For the front, penetrating oil and the gentle administration of a striking tool did it. The parts are saved in a ziploc for the next owner. ;)

The double apeture- "death donut" takes some getting used to, but once figured out, has a wow factor. You can see holes appear, seems like.

Sadly, like most M38s, mine has a so-so bore. Given time, I'll shoot the pitting out.

"Death Donut"

I like that!

:D

I was thinking about just getting the rear sight only, and leaving the post on the front.

Nice scope Kis! Now I have scope envy!

Take care,

Tom

Kismet,
Who made the mount? Is there a better one out there for a scout scope on a mauser?

Nice, I like that Mosin! I want to do the same thing to my Spanish Mauser chambered in 7.62x51mm. Problem is, no one seems to make a scout scout mount for the Spanish Mauser...

Thank you, all.

Ray, the mount was a sub-$20 one from eBay. Threads are so coarse that the bolt rattles in the threads, even when tightened down. Took the rear sight ramp pin and drove it through the opening, tearing the threads. Seems to be tight now. Had to be very careful not to over-torque the allen screws.

Go to the Guns and Game forums and to the Mosin-Nagant site in there. Some ads, a wealth of information, and very good guys.

The scope was dumb luck. Bob was selling it for several days on another forum and I had not noticed it. It sold for about half list. I got very lucky.

Gunfucius, I did mount a pistol LER on my Spanish Guardia, but the recoil over-came the tension. The gunsmith drilled two holes and put small scope mounts on the top. I now use one of them as a peep sight and hunt over iron.
It worked well this past season.
