Bought an M5 olive wood handle knife a few weeks ago. The grind on the edge seems a bit rough, but it is razor sharp and I am very pleased with it so far (just doing some kitchen work with it).
Now then, the leather sheath. Nicely made, no complaints! I especially like the forming that grips the hilt like the one on my Chris Reeve Green Beret Gfeller leather sheath - even without the snap strap the knife just snucks in and is held well.
But I also like a leather sheath to be supple, not hard. I've treated the sheath with a number of applications of a quality leather oil by now, and it just sort of shrunk, and when tapping it with a finger nail it feels like cardboard/wood. In contrast, the leather sheath of a Bark River Bravo 2 knife (bought just about the same time) with the same oil application has softened (and darkened) just beautifully.
What can I do to make the M5 leather sheath more supple and take on that nice 'aged' look?
