I'm thinking of buying an M6 and looking for opinions.

How does the SR101 steel hold up? Or any thing else you
guys care to mention.

Thanks in advance.

I took down much of an old mature Apricot tree, a recently dead one. The wood of this sucker id extremely hard and dense...

The M6 handled it great.. but was murder on my hand... the blade showed no wear, and stayed sharp...

Bought two last month. Good and solid .250 thick blade. Carry it all the time in the woods and on the 4 wheeler. If you can find a muddy buy two!

While slightly handle heavy for its size (IMHO), it's one tough as nails Rat blade.

I say Go For It!!

Thanks for the input guys. I'll probably grab one.

(That fire extinguisher ran a bad 2nd !!!)

It is heavy.

To me it feels like they sharpened the wrong side of the blade. If I hold it edge up, the grip feels much better in my hand.

I don't like the Tac handle very much either (as in Satin Jack Tac).

On the other hand, the M6 is about as unbreakable as they come.

SR-101 is very good steel and will last a long time if you clean it up after use and avoid long term exposure to moisture.

just got mine. fit and finish is good. like others have said it is handle-heavy.It wasn't that sharp when I first got it, but cleaned up quickly. customer service, speed of delivery was top notch. I got the buy brown kydex sheath which is very nice. I use a fixed blade as my EDC, but this one is a little heavy for that. can't wait to give it a good workout.

Mine took a truly sharp edge and that was with just a fine DMT. I have x-tra fine on the way. But it is tough, well built knife. I haven't stabbed any car hoods yet, but red oak is child's play for it. It is also hardly noticeable hanging from a belt.

While I have not yet abused mine, as it is a recent purchase - ditto most of the comments above - it's an excellent choice.

As to the quoted comments:

I'm not in the service or an expert in blade fighting for that matter, but I do understand the self-defense aspects of blades and have had some training; seems to me that the M6 was made for those who understand the "serious-use" aspects of blade warfare. It is designed to facilitate the multiple reverse grip uses of those that employ a knife on enemy personel/sentry removal type situations or at least that's the impression I got when I first removed it from the box and held it in my hand. Feels excellent in my hand (which ain't saying much as all hands are NOT created equal) no matter what grip I apply. YMMV

Appeared designed by someone who has used a knife for real under real combat conditions.

The M6 along w/ the BB kydex to house it are both keepers, IMHO.

I have never been in a knife fight, but I can't imagine a situation where I would need to comfortably hold the knife with the choil and sharpened edge on my thumb side instead of the finger side.

I agree that not all hands are created equal. I have fairly short fingers and a wide palm but I just can't find a sweet spot for a standard grip.

I would have been better off with a S6. It's cheaper, it's lighter and I know that the Resiprene-C handle fits my grip.

My M6 is an awesome fit to my hand, as is my HRLM. The M6 is a little better though...feels like an extension of my arm rather than a knife in my hand.

My SS4, however, is just a very tight fit for me... :(

I do not own an M6, but I do have a number of the "old line" Swamp Rat blades and I use them a lot working out on the property and I have been very, very impressed with SR-101. This is awesome stuff.

I use my "old" Battle Rat almost every day during the growing season for triming vines, limbing trees and disassembling the occasional piece of furniture. From time to time I even use it to fell a tree (4 inch or under. Anything bigger than that I go for the chain saw).

Even with all of that use, I really only need to sharpen the knife twice during the season. I sharpen it once in March to get ready and again in July. Great stuff. You can't go wrong with Swamp Rat quality.

I have an M6, and my hand structure is medium sized with long fingers. The knife is VERY comfortable with any grip I choose to use. It's seen some light chopping, the hammering of tent stakes and other light duties and hardly has a scratch on it. If ever I had to use it for some serious chopping, shelter building survival work I wouldn't hesitate. The knife is built for hardcore performance and that's just what it gives!

I first saw the M6 at the Blade debut last summer. I immediately bought a LE Scrapper 6, a leftover tan Camp Tramp, and some other incidentals. (Okuden sheath for a Busse! )

I liked the new Ratweiler and Mastiff A LOT. More so the blade than the grip but it reminded me more of a FSH drop point style that I like.

I looked at the M6 and other Mischief grips and just didn't like they way they looked.

The first day of the show closed in 30:00 minutes; I walked back and and gave Hammy the cash for a M6. I was certain I would regret not buying one to try and could always sell it later if I didn't like it.

Well, the CT is gone. The Mischief 6, while I still think the grip is... well... unattractive, fits my hand perfectly! I was wanting a NO-E sized Rat but they just never made one in the old line. Hey?! First one from the new line?? A NO-E sized, clip point!!

It has become one of my favorite all-around blades for rough and tumble abuse. Certainly not a master chopper, I've got some of those. Those choppers weigh a ton and are pretty big too. The M6 is small enough to be on the belt, in an EDC bag, or tucked away without its' mass being evident.

Ode to my M6...

This pic was taken shortly after blade. A few weeks after this pic, it made a week long trip with me on a solo sea kayak tour in the Lake Superior Apostle Islands. A Battle Rat and Game Warden also made the trip. While I wore the Game Warden into town and the Battle Rat reigned supreme as the chopper and quickie privy digger, the M6 was the most used and carried.

P.S. - I even like the new logo just fine. ;)

As soon as funds build again, I want to get a HRLM.

In my opinion, the M6 and HRLM are modeled closely on two of the most popular , retired Busse blades:

Mischief 6 - Natural Outlaw Ergo
Howling Rat Lil Mischief - Badger Attack III

It's hard to go wrong with those proven form factors. :)

Mine arrived in the mail today. I ordered it Saturday online. Thats quite a turnaround IMO. Its a lot of knife in your hand. Not as big as the large choppers but it is no small chunk of steel. The handle is a nice fit for me and I have fairly small hands. It is sharp out of the box but not near a shaver. Unfortunately it is already dark outside so I cannot do much tonight in the way of testing it. It just looks and feels really nice. Good choice for a fairly large knife.
