Hi

I'm totally noob to Swamp Rat and Scrapyard.

Well to be honnest I'm totally noob to that tipe of knives. I know about folders, balis and HI stuff but not about good fixed blades.

I would like you to give me good points to compare those 2 knives.

Maybe to compare them to Ontario RAT-7 and Ranger's RD-6 while you're at it.

Thanks a lot guys.

M6 much more solid/heavy full tang design, overall heavier knife. Richer look and feel (micarta scales). Skull crushing heel. SR101 great stuff

Scrapper 6, lighter total i believe, ResC grip (grippier, transfers less energy when chopping), less metal under the grip, but thicker actual blade (same shape otherwise imo)... makes her a bit more blade heavy/chopper friendly. Soft heel. SR77 great stuff.

Many like the Micarta, many like the ResC. ResC catches clothing a bit more when drawn, has a less formidable heel, but is generally more comfrotable to chop with...

Personally, i was fully impressed with the M6, so much so that i got two. I just got a S6 on the secondary market, and now i am thinking of selling one of my M6's.

For most people, they probably wouldn't notice a difference in the two except for handle material like mentioned above. Meaning most people don't use their knives hard enough to break one. I personally don't chop with knives much so the nicer looking micarta is the way I went.

The S6 handle is very comfortable and has that blade heavy feel that a chopper needs.

The weight of the knives is closer than you would thing but the M6 is heavier.

I wish I would have bought two S6 LE's instead of one S6 LE and one M6.

Well i thought about it a bit, but this post cinched it... I prefer ResC for a med sized knife...

IMO, It pulls (fabrick) too much for a small blade (warden size) to be handy, and larger choppers don't really need the vibration absorbtion as their heft and inertia has that effect, but medium to almost large blades, ResC is king. Scrapper6 through Scrapper9, up to the DogFather... Just became must haves to me... In the same way that the BattleRat was an allaround awesome score in knife design to me (the way the CampTramp is maybe to others)... so the Scrapper line coninues the tradition.
I just put my money where my mouth is =)

as for crossover size, The INFI-Coot in resC is King of the hill, and the Scrapper4INFI is growing on me, but not in the same class, but YMMV

For comparisons sake... shortly after I returned from Blade.

For what it's worth, my S6 LE became the safe queen and the M6 became my knockaround knife. Maybe because I like the micarta on a smaller knife but that doesn't explain the constant use of the 1st gen Howling Rat in my EDC bag. Maybe because I was concerned about the rust resistance of uncoated S7 but... that doesn't explain the RW I stripped to satin and never had a problem with staining if I maintained it even a little after use.

Either way... the S6 LE is an awesome knife with a zero edge. The M6, while not having the most attractive grip, does fit my hand really well.

I finally chose a more... affortable option. I found that great knife at the flea market, made in China but... WOW

Just kidding, it's a RD6. But I love the look of the M6, I'll have to buy one someday.

Justin does a great job making a dependable, hard-use blade. As long as the grips fit you, you should be in good shape.

I wanted a S6 but got such a good deal on a M6 that I had to take it.
It should be here tomorow and I look forward to contrasting the micarta handle to the RES C mudder on my SS4.

I have an old style RD9 and love it. But I am going to have to grab one of the BIG Rats from the new linr when they are released. :)

My M6 made it today and it was way better than advertised. It is the standard
model in the pics above and came with an Armouralleather sheath and busse lanyard. The knife was brand new, not bad for 100$ canadian.
