I got a belated birthday gift today that I love- an M65 TrueSpec field jacket. It's awesome! I've wanted one of these for years but I had just been wearing my LL Bean barn coat (it'd be great except it's button up and there is no sleeve insulation).

The M65 has a full removable liner and both zip and button snap closures which is pretty cool. I really like the short zipper that starts just under the middle of the jacket. It's a lot more comfortable to sit in a car with that. I also like the hood that stores in the back of the collar.

They're a great value, and it's a very cool olive drab. Plus, there's novelty of having military jacket with a simple design that has endured for over forty years now.

Yep. Its a great jacket. I have a blue one so it doesn't scream GI but it sometimes comes off as "I'M A COP"...oh well. Good jacket to wear when you might need to beat it up.

I sitll have mine from my days in the military. It works well during hunting season. My friends buy all of this expensive hunting clothing and freeze their tails off. I show up in a pair of flannel-lined jeans, my M65, an orange vest, and a hat and I'm a heck of a lot warmer for half the price.

I've had a black one for years now , they are great for abuse.

One of those jackets that will last you decades with ease.

I like the jacket but I just don't find it to be all that warm, even with a liner. This thing would be a real winner if someone would make a down liner that goes inside it instead of the poly fiber one that they current have.

I have an M-65--> they are great quality and the surplus ones can be a very good value. I used to wear one pretty much thruoghout the winter (without the liner it was good early fall through spring) and it never seemed to be less than adequate.

Anyone know if the M-65 is still being issued? I had, at one point in time, three of them. I never did like them. Gave one of them, with my liner, to my grandfather.

Of course I was a bit smaller 15 years ago so neither of my remaining two would fit today. We were fielding the Gore-Tex Extreme Cold Weather System at the time so I opted to wear the Gore-Tex at every opprotunity. That jacket with a polypro undershirt was a warm piece of issue.

I wish the new ones are US made

Find a good surplus store. They'll have plenty of the good Made in the USA jackets.

And the price will be much better than your paying for the consumer clones.
My DCU M-65 cost $15 (unissued condition) in 2000.

Too big for my issue one, gave it away. Always liked the jacket, have bought a lot of variants over the years. My favorite never fit right and I gave it my brother in law, it was M-65 but it was made of leather. If you watch "Under Siege II" the bad is wearing one. Few years ago Levis made a leather version too, but they dried up before I could find one.

I really like mine but I can't wear the liner -- it's too hot. I overheat easily anyway.

The liner is pretty simple, if you want a warmer one then get a sewing friend to make it out of fleece; get a Polartec blanket for the fabric and you'll be warm in style and quality.

Fleece is worse. Not only does it hold too much heat, it doesn't breathe, so I get soaked in sweat inside it. Until the temp goes down below freezing, I can't wear much more than a t-shirt under winter jackets.
