M7 BOC Bayonet questions?

Hi Guys,

My lovely girlfriend just bought me an early Xmas present from an antique store: a Vietnam Era M7 bayonet for the M-16 rifle (it was stamped "US M7 BOC" which with a little research turned out to be Bauer Ordnance Corp).

I'd be interested if someone has any stories/knowledge/trivia to share about this classic military issue. Also, I understand that the blade steel is AISI 1080 (please correct me if I got that wrong) and I am unfamiliar with its properties other than it's high-carbon. Is there anything I should know about this steel, say, about its maintenance or preservation?

Much obliged!

M7 BOC is the bayonet I have for my AR15. I've actually had it longer than my AR.

Seems to be pretty good steel. It took and holds one heck of a sharp edge.
