Greetings

Does anyone have experience with the M9 Bayonet? How well do they perform in the field? They seem to be quite a strong design.

I've noticed a few companies have produced these blades over the years. Is there any particular one that stands out from the rest or are they all essentially the same design?

Many thanks for your assistance

with mine. The saw is well-nigh useless, the handle is uncomfortable, the edge-holding was poor, it doesn't chop well, and the back of the clip-point got rapidly dinged after cutting wires. I still have it though, in case I ever put a bayonet lug on one of my ARs. On the positive side of the ledger, it motivated me to buy a Busse.

I was issued one and I found it to be completely worthless. I would not recommend this to anyone for anything. It might make a good tent stake. Maybe. Mounted on a rifle is the only place this semi-sharp piece of junk steel has any use. A spyderco fixed temperance and a SOG EOD multitool paired with a good folder, a spyderco military in my case more than takes care of 99 percent of a soldiers cutting needs. I would have loved to replaced my M-9 bayonet with another rifle mag.

I too was issued one during Joint Endeavor. Worthless piece of crap. I got ten times the use out of my Leatherman and Spyderco Endura.

I currently carry a Strider WB in the field and couldn't be happier.

I agree with what others have said. The M9 bayonet is, at best, a compromised tool for all of its intended usages. Still, it looks kinda cool attached to an AR15 or M16 rifle. The earlier Buck/Phrobis (spelling?) examples have some collector appeal. I bought one for about $100 when I purchased my first AR15 way back in 1987 and still have both the rifle and bayonet. I have a sentimental attachment to it. There's something to be said for that....

if you want a good bayonet go with the ontarion ok3s I belive. It is the new marine corp bayonet and it is awesome compared to the m9
