In the first batch of M9's sent to the Army the stamping on the blade included the Buck date symbol today called a "chevron" by collectors. How many bayonets were produced with this chevron before the stamping was changed and why was it changed? Thanks

The chevron was an indicator showing the year that the blade was made. < indicated 1986; > indicated that the blade was made in 1987. I don't know how many M9s were made those years but the reason that it changed was because the year changed.

The first 1200 or so of the initial contract with the Army had the Chevron denoting 1987. Phrobis had us stop doing this because they were not supposed to have any mark on them that would give away their maker. Of the 1200, 250 were numbered. The odd numbered ones went to Buck and the even numbered went to Phrobis.
Hope this helps,
