Remember my RM fondly, kind of missing it. The M9 is awesome, but I was wondering what you guys thought of the M9 vs. the RM as a hardcore user? Primarily a "portable" chopper. I'd love to hear speculation, as well as input from those who've used both.

Thanks,

The Mastiff is hard to beat as it has that comfy handle with the drop tail an no exposed lanyard hole to worry about.

I would love to eventually see something like the M9 with a Chopweiler handle and a drop point... the Rat Mastiff Chopper. :D

Bill I was thinking the same thing about the lanyard hole area. The choil on mine felt a little sharp, but I still really like it and think it would make a great user. I've only air chopped as well. Hopefully some users will comment on the lanyard hole area.

I like the Mastiff better than the Daddy actually. The Mastiff has a saber grind and packs just as much punch (to me anyway) in a shorter package.

Shorter by about a 1/2" maybe. :p

I have both, and like the Rat Daddy better. Seems like I could swing it for a longer period of time before my arm falls off... :D

I have not used a RD or RM, only the m9. The pommel/skull crusher part doesn't irritate or rub my hand wrong at all. Still, using a lanyard through the first bolster hole might be wise.

I think that my particular chopping style is the culprit and why I like the fat drop tail on the Mastiff.

Here's how I chop:
- Choke way back on the handle
- Keep my thumb and index + middle tight (this is a pivot point of the knife during the "snap")
- Keep my ring and pinky relaxed
- Snap the blade with my wrist at the end of the chop
- Use a forward-hole safely lanyard

If you like to keep a firm hold on your knife and don't choke back while chopping I don't think that the exposed lanyard hole would present any chafing problems at all.

I had a Rat Daddy and a Rat Mastiff for a short while and the RD just felt too long for me. I really liked the RM though and I'm trying to remember why I let it go... Love how light and fast the M9 feels though:)

I sold my RD for the same reason, the blade length to height ratio didn't work for me, i.e. the blade was not tall enough.

The RMastiff is an entirely different story. :D There's a blade that is close to perfect.
