Hmmm. I have been a PC man since I was a teen. But I am starting to warm up to MACs after I received one through my work. I figured it's free so why not give it a try. So far, not bad. :)

I love my Macs. If you have an Intel-based Mac, grab a copy of Parallels or VMWare Fusion and you have the most flexible computer available. I'm running Mac OSX, Windows XP, Vista, 2K3 Server, Ubuntu and CentOS all on the same freaking box! Get your geek on

And the iPhone helps me F5 with the best of 'em ... wherever I might be.

We run a whole mid size company with Macs for the past 15 years, I am presently running a new imac with parallels with xp and it is fast.
Just bought one for home as well

No viruses or spyware, the commercials are funny but they are accurate

If I had a bunch of money, I would have a Mac set up for graphics stuff, but I prefer PC for everything else.

I've macs and they're great for everything. I flog the crap out of it. It's used for all sorts of graphics - 3D anims for film and tv as well as all sorts of advertising and print graphics. I have MS Office running on it, and they're the only apps that have crash problems. Everything else works great with NO problems. And, they're reasonably safe from viruses and hackers, as most morons that do that sort of thing are your typical 15 yr old geek sitting in his/her bedroom with nothing better to do.

wow i just wrote this whole long story about this topic and i pressed the wrong button and it all got erased... long story short i made the jump to mac and will never jump back to pc. Apple has amazing customer service i mean amazing!!! and with this vista crap out now and the new lepord coming out theres even more reasons to stay with a mac. they also have software that will let you run any pc program on a mac so you can do everything and a whole lot more on a mac

My personal experience with macs has been significantly more crashes in photoshop than my home PC. I used them in a graphic design class I took a while ago. I also work on them time to time. I think they are ok just not my cup of tea.

I also make my living remotely supporting PCs and business networks so that might have something to do with it.

I almost got a mac laptop so I could start learning the OS to start supporting more of them but the single button on the touch pad literally made me grab a Windows laptop.

if you just hook up a regular 2 button mouse to it the problem is solved, also when a mouse is not an option you just press control and click, and the right click menu pops up, i dont even realize that im doing it now that im used to it, and you never have to worry about clicking the wrong button if your vary fast paced. the keypad also has the option of two finger scrolling where you just use two fingers instead of one and it scrolls up and down the page and you can turn the double tap to select on and off as well. after trying to use a pc laptop after kowing the macs ease of use i literally wanted to throw the pc laptop cause theres so many things that are just so much easier to use on the mac

and p.s. ive never had my mac freeze up, crash, or needed to be restarted, once on me in over a years worth of use. nearly impossiable to say about any pc

my daughter is going to college, several years ago they deemed that all new freshmen must have a laptop, at first it was a dell or a HP, after 3 years someone got them to change to ibooks and now macbooks. They used to have 4 fulltimers doing IT support for the students, now its a part time student. And he has ZERO back log on stuff he has parts for. Apple has given him a pretty good parts kits and some loaners, if he can;t fix it, he over nights it to cupertino and its back within 48 hours.

There are no virus rampant in the Mac side, Data is secure, and people love the tools.

as a side, I just spent 600 dollars on a used 4 year old Titanium laptop and am very happy with it as it runs like a clock, find me a two year old PC laptop that will sell for anything close to that.

Macs would be even better if....

They did not cost an arm and a leg.
The peripherals did not cost and arm and a leg.
The software did not cost an arm and a leg and if their was an actual selection of software to choose from.
I can fix any problem on any PC ,but on a Mac ? I used to be able to, but try finding the individual parts now and then see how ridiculously high they are in comparative cost to a parts for a PC.

I have no problem with Apple , more power to 'em , the computers look good and I dig the GUI but until they start getting sensible about how overpriced computers are , I'll pass.

Macs don't work the way I work. I crash them left and right but OSX has helped there but not really fixed it.

I can't pick and choose hardware. The mac might run Windows programs in emulation but without support for high end graphics cards the mac will never be a gaming platform. They also don't support the GOOD sound hardware Creative is making.

Macs are overpriced for what you actually get and too limited (for me) in what they support. There is no upgrade path to speak of.

Macs are pretty.

I have an 8 year old Dell that is still running fine, minimal problems.

People mention the command shortcuts to use macs with the 1 button mouse. PC has basically the same shortcuts, at least in the programs I use. (but with the Ctrl and Alt keys)
1. you can't build a custom mac from scratch at home.
2. Macs blow for gaming.
3. Macs are overpriced (see #1)

you can use any peripherials with them, eg: i have an 8 dollar logitech mouse that works awesome with my macbook, theres no need to spend the $50 on the apple mouse, you dont have to buy their router(airport) any will do.
i never pay for software so i dont have to worry about that.
and they have such amazing customer service that you would never need to replace anything yourself if you have the warrenty

I've always been a PC guy too, but recently bought a ibook for around the house. Basically its my BladeForum computer. Anyway as was mentioned you can partition the harddrive and run mac and windows based software. Pretty easy transition that I'm loving.

I've got a Wii and PS3 for gaming. EA is publishing their stuff on Macs these days. John Carmack was at WWDC 07 and showcased his new gaming engine first on Mac.

The whole Macs cost more argument really doesn't stand these days. The longevity and resale of Macs is superior. Apple doesn't throw a bunch of crap shareware/malware on their machines which is a bonus (I guess Dell and others can help subsidize their boxes this way though )

I dig UNIX/Linux and can run a bunch of useful apps through Fink and Darwinports. I connect peripherals, etc. and stuff just works. It's funny, my friends used to give me crap about Macs, now they're buying them up like candy. I really don't care if folks choose to avoid Macs, just get tired of the misinformation.
