Thinking about getting my first Mac. I've used Chromebooks and Windows PCs for my whole life, but am seriously considering a MacBook Pro.

My two options I'm considering

1) 2016 MacBook Pro 13.3 non-touch bar $1499

2) 2015 MacBook Pro 13.3 i5 2.7 $1499 (not on sale, found it for $1350 online)

My uses for a computer is web browsing (Facebook, YouTube (HD/4K viewing, no processing or filming), forums, shopping, picture viewing (no hardcore editing). My main concerns with previous computers is sluggish/laggy performance, mediocre touch pad feel, meh keyboard, sluggish performance on media rich websites and HD/4K video playback.

I also do a little gaming but mostly Steam games like Counterstrike.

My concerns with the 2016 MacBook is that its new and reviews are still coming in (non touch bar model seems to be least buggy/best battery life. It's also more expensive.

My concerns with the 2015 MacBook is buying an already outdated model. The reviews on it are outstanding (even reviews from current month/year). The screen is dimmer and has less contrast than newer model.

Any advice or suggestions is appreciated.

Buy a 2015 yes it's old and expensive but the 2016 isn't exactly bleeding edge either. The '16 MBP has enough issues that I wouldn't be surprised to see and early '17 revision. It seems counter-intuitive but right now is just a really bad time to buy a Mac and buy into the ecosystem.

I have a 2015 MBP, it's fast and light. And has all the older connectivity USB-A, SD card reader etc. The USB-C is supposed to be the way of the future but those legacy ports are important to me. Get the fastest processor and the most RAM you can afford, as the newer MBP's are not upgradable. The Apple hardware is excellent. The lack of junk software (trials etc.) on Apple products is refreshing.

I had good luck getting an older macbook pro - maybe 2012 or 13 and upgrading ram and putting an SSD drive in. You can check out some places to see what it might take. That might be a better option but what has been suggested is good advice. You will pay more upfront for macs but I find they run longer than my PC's

Go with the older model. The touchbar on the newer model is neat but not needed. The older model has more ports which you may need more than you think.

Get the SSD and lots of ram. I went from WinXX to a Macbook Air and love it. It even dual boots to Win8 when needed.

I wound up getting the 2016 MBP without the touch bar. I'm loving it so far.

Good choice. I have the 2016 15" and love it. Keyboard is much more comfortable for me, especially during long writing sessions. Add in the screen quality and the design/lightness and I think it is worth it over the 2015 models. USB-C is great, but yes, you do have to buy some adapters until everyone else catches up.

I like the touch bar, and use it quite a bit. Very excited to see how developers will start using it in the near future.

No issues with battery life or anything else some reviewers have been talking about.
