I've been looking for a good spiked morning star mace for a while. I stumbled upon this model:

Hanwei Spiked Mace:

It looks exactly like what I imagined, with the right pattern of the spikes. Seems like the perfect zombie crusher. Has anyone had any experience with Hanwei products before? Is it a high performance brand, or mostly for display?

What other brands are there that make good spiked maces? Feel free to post pictures if you have any..

The Hanwei "Bell Bowie" had a great write up in Blade or Knives illustrated a couple of years ago it said it was the best production bowie ever made.

Quote from KnifeCenter ad copy:

"The Studded Mace features a steel-cased composite head".

Composite head? Sounds like it might be more of a show piece.

Hollow maces were quite common back in the day, believe it or not. We had one in the shop once and it seemed quite sturdy (although we didn't hit anything with it of course!). That being said if you don't mind a flanged design the Windlass Steelcrafts maces have gotten very good reviews.

I'm a little afraid to ask, but, what would you possibly use one for, other than a display piece?

Exactly what I was thinking...

Not exactly a whole lot of things you can do with a mace since the Crusades ended...

Still, they're an interesting piece of history in and of themselves.

Cold Steel made one a few years ago. You might be able to snag one on the fleebay although I have a hard time believing that with all the actors around there are not any other good brands.

Man, If Cold Steel still made their Mace I would purchase one just for the mods I could do to it.

Yeah, a mace really is one of those items that's not useful for anything other than caving in someones skull. They do look pretty cool hanging on a wall, though.

+1. I missed the opportunity to get a CS Battle Mace. God it was sweet. Maybe it might make a comeback someday.

I can't think of a practical use. Might be fun to hit watermelons with one though.

only thing I can think of would maybe be as a sort of portable wrecking ball, for demoliton jobs. and that's a bit of a stretch, you'd do just as well, if not better, with a sledge hammer, or a decent sized crowbar.

I think it would be fun to have something like that, that was 'real' and strong enough to use. I realise that it would see no use at all (aside from maby watermelons lol) but as a wall hanger. But if I were to spend the $$ it would make me more happy with my spent cash knowing that it's real and not a plastic filled replica :p

The practical application would be self-defense. Some folks live in places where a firearm is next to impossible to obtain, or for reasons of a past regretted mistake, people have partially lost the right to bear arms. For those people, a mace would be a means to arm themselves against someone who might seek to do them severe injury or death.
