What do you guys think of this? It has a range of 25ft, which is better than my Fox Labs OC and Taser C2. It's also a hell of a lot cheaper than my Taser, and gets more than one shot. I think it gets about 7 1 second bursts.

Seems kinda big, though. Also, not sure how useful the led on this thing is. Might be something good to keep in the car. And before you tell me to carry a .45, procure me a CCW in California. And no, I'm not moving to another state - why should we just hand over our most populous state to the gun-grabbers?

I would go with the orange one like the one in the commercial so it is obvious that it is a non-lethal device/weapon. I like my pepper blaster by Kimber, Only 2 shots but shoots the gel at 90mph. Likely it is not legal in your state. I do carry a firearm but I always have the pepper blaster for situations where a firearm is not an appropriate response.

I've held one and its not too bad, just a bit bulky for me. I don't usually carry a backpack or wear a heavy coat so for me its important to be as low-pro as I can without printing. I normally carry some mace triple action. Unless you had this in a coat pocket, I don't think it would carry too well in a pant pocket.

I have had to use my mace before a few times (still on the same bottle) and it gets the job done. Its the stream kind and is very fast and accurate, never had a problem. Plus, I think its a bit more inconspicuous than mace that looks like a gun. Just my two cents

Given the shape and general appearance of it, definitely get the orange or hot pink one; from more that six feet away, that thing will look exactly like a small revolver and its appearance could easily get you shot.

Mace and Pepper Spray are different...Mace can take up 30 seconds to work,,,Pepper spray is instantaneous...The percentages are the key when Dealing with Pepper Spray...The higher the percentage the hotter the burn...The Marines on Embassy Duty carried 18& prior to 2001, I don't know what percentage they are carrying now..

God Bless

Lee

btw...It is Illegal for a Police Officer to arbitrarily spray someone with thier issued spray...it's that bad

Mace is just a brand name, Now almost all mace is also pepper based because the tear gas based formula is illegal nearly everywhere. How fast it works is directly related to hit location and individual tolerance.

I've looked at the Kimber a few times. They now have one with a little stub of a pistol grip that will accommodate a finger. It's called the Pepperblaster II. It looks a lot less like a pistol than the Mace item. It's only two shots, though, and about half the range, IIRC. I don't think I would carry anything in a pouch on my belt. I'd rather have it concealed in an outside jacket pocket where I could put my hand on it without anyone knowing it was there. Be sure to check all applicable laws in your area. Don't want to get anyone in trouble. The only pepper spray I currently own is a little $9 can of Sabre 2 or 3 component formula. It has resided in a drawer since I bought it a few years ago.

I had a few Sabre sprayers(pen and the keychain one) but its range was limited. Piexon makes a reloadable pistol version but I think it was a few hundred bucks.

A mate of mine over here that trains the police in baton and peper spray use/tactics carries a Piexon jet protector (I think that's what it's called) It is pretty big and blocky but he says it's the best one to have. It takes 4 "shells" and you crack it open like a shot gun to load them. You get ones that look more like a pistol but I don't know if they are any better or worse other than they only take 2 shells.

They might be worth looking at if you want such a thing. :)

What about this for dogs or animals. I run and always wondered. I have been chased enough and I don't want to serious hurt the pooch, but I don't like getting bit.

You don't need a $150 crowd control device to stop a dog. They have exposed mucous membranes on the outside of their nose and breathe heavily with their mouths open. Just a cheap pocket-sized streamer or fogger will do.

I have an ASP mini palm defender that worked quite well for dogs. I have only had to use it once. I prefer not to use it if at all possible and the range is qute short but it did work. The dog charged me a couple of times and on the 3rd time he looked like he ment it so I gave him a face full and boot in the mouth.....problem solved. :)

I have one. Thought it would be great for work. I was wrong. It is unreliable. The distance is a horrible over-estimation of what it can actually do. I have a video of it totally failing at life somewhere. If I find it, I will post it.

I prefer this:

ASP Palm Defender. Well worth the money and compact. Not gonna be mistaken as a weapon.
