Today I am carrying my MACH 1 that I got from a fellow forumite. It is the knife I grabbed on my way out to work this morning. I normally carry a Commander, but I felt like something different today.
While standing around at the vending machines, I was wondering if it would be possible to open the Mach 1 like a waved Commander. No one was around so I pulled it out of my pocket and "click!" it worked. I tried it again, and was able to get it 3 out of 4 tries. I guess the thumb disk is catching on my pants pocket or seam. I don't think I would want to rely on this as an opening method without much more practice.
It's just nice to know that it can be done. I will be carrying this knife alot more now.

I discovered the same thing with the Mach-1. My success rate was much higher. If I remember correctly, I had only one failure to open in 20 draws.

I find this rather interesting. I think if a slightly larger diameter thumb disk were used it might make it work everytime.

I just tried it again when I broke down and bought a package of trail mix. It worked! I think that there is a sweet spot, getting the blade tension just right, so that this will work reliably.
I just tightened the pivot slightly, and it did not work. IT wants to do it, but needs to be a little looser.
