On the new Blade cover, the Mach 1 looks like a great knife.

When is it going to be available with the aluminum handles and the Damascus blade?

I saw this too...Isnt the Mach 1 just the name for the new waveless Comander? I havent read it yet but it looks just like one without the wave...Of course nicer looking blade though!

Although the blade is similar in shape, I think that the knife is different overall to a Commander. The blade does not appear to be recurved and it appears to be double ground. I like my Commander, but this one looks a lot dressier.

The Damascus blade stands out with the aluminum handle. In the article, there is also a photo of the G-10 version with 154CM bead blasted blade.

Not only is the blade on the Mach-1 different, the handle is also not a Commander handle. In the article, it shows a production knife. It looks like the handle is borrowing a lot from the Raven.

I just got the new Blade magazine in the mail and the MACH-1 looks pretty cool. Looks like the cover knife is what Emerson is talking about with the new "Custom production knives." The production G-10, beadblast Mach-1 looks like it's going to be a big knife, with the think handles reminiscent of the Commander or Specwar and wide Commander like blade.

Any idea when these will be available? And how much?

Here's my response from Emerson:

"The tentative retail price of the Mach-1 is $239.95. There is no price
variance for black-t and satin finishes (we are no longer using chromium
nitrate). The tentative custom price is $414.95."

That's funny because in Blade magazine Emerson himself mentions that "The chromium nitrate is a tough dog. It has a frosty appearance and looks pretty cool." If that's Emerson's quote, then why did Emerson (the company) reply back saying that they're no longer using it? Either way, I'm still getting a production Mach-1.

What is the standard Mach 1? Does it have G-10 scales and either a beadblast or black-T blade?

Is the custom version in damascus with aluminum handles or is is just a handmade knife?

Jason

The standard is the G10 handle with the bead blasted or Black T coated blade. The custom is with the aluminum handle and damascus blade. You should pick up a copy of the latest Blade magazine. It has pics of both.

I have it. I was just curious because Emerson now has a production house, handmade or custom house and custom production house and I was not sure what everything would fall under. Would a custom Mach 1 be completely handmade by Emerson with the damascus and aluminum handles or would those parts cost more? Or would a handmade Mach 1 be just like a handmade CQC6, plain not full dress?

I was trying to see if I could do a run down of everyones questions but that ended up seeming a bit overwhelming so, here is some Mach 1 info. If there are any other questions that you have or were not answered, please ask away.

The Mach 1 is the first example of what will soon be offered as Custom/Production knives. I approximately 2-4 weeks, The Emerson Company Store will open up. There you will be able to select from a model and tailor the options to suit your needs and budget. Eventually, you will be able to choose;
-Model

-Blade, 154-CM or Damascus. Titanium is also a possibility.

-Blade finish. If you choose the 154-CM blade, you will be able to choose between Black or Green T and Chromium Nitride. Due to popular demand, bead blast may be an available option as well.

-Handle material, you will be able to choose between a standard Ti liner/G10 scale configuration or the machined aluminum handles. There should be a few color choices in the aluminum handles.

-Liners, if you choose the scale/liner configuration, colored liners will be available. So far there are blue, green, purple, and gold. Color selections are not finalized at this time. I personally think that this is one of the coolest options as it only adds about $15 to the price and really dresses up the knife. I especially like it with the CN blade.

Some general type info on the Mach 1.

It is not a Waveless Commander (a Waveless Commander will be available through the Company Store though). The knife is a bit smaller than the Commander. It will satisfy the people who find the recurve blade of the Commander either too difficult to sharpen or simply not to their liking.

It's blade is a long clip with a straight edge. It has a wide profile which gives it a great deal of belly. Even though it lacks the Wave, you should find it very fast to open due to the open access to the opening disc.

The standard production Mach 1's should be available from The Emerson Company Store in 2-4 weeks and should also ship to the distributors in approximately the same time frame.

You will be able to order the custom production knives as soon as the store is up and running. Time frame on delivery will vary depending on parts available at the time an order is placed. I believe that there will be some lag time initially as the project is geared up and once in full swing, will vary depending on the number of orders.

This is about what I can come up with at this time. I will post more as I know more. In the mean time, if there are any more questions, i will try to address them.

Take care,
Derek Russell

I saw the Mach 1 at the SHOT show and I was impressed. It is the nicest one they have done yet. It has a sleek look and feels great in the hand. I'll definitely carry them, if I can get them.

Thanks.

I am looking forward to the availability of the one with aluminum handles and Damascus blade. I am guessing that it would be a custom/production in the $350-400 range?

Daniel

Is it clear yet how much work Emerson will put into a custom production knife or is the custom part of it the fact that you get to choose options like blade, liner colours and handle materials?
