Mach1/CQC8 related???

In looking/drooling over some of the custom pictures in the Emerson Gallery yesterday I noticed that the blade profile of the cqc8 looks alot like the blades on the mach1...is this intended, or just the angle of the picture or...The grip does not look the same, but both are ergonomic, although the mach1's grip is rather straight.
Any ideas/input?
This may not be the most exciting topic, but it is better than qc posts and "How do I sharpen my Commander."

C'mon guys, I am really curious about this...is the mach1 a close cousin of the cqc8??? Or am I not even in the same ballpark???

I don't have solid info for ya (meaning first hand), however, I seem to recall reading that the Mach1 was introduced in response to customers requests for a knife the size of a Commander, but with out the recurve and without the wave.

I don't believe there is a direct lineage between the CQC8 and the Mach1.

I just got a Mach 1, and I have a couple of 8's, and they are definately not related. However; they do share several traits. They are both very good at being equally adept at both saber and reverse grip. It looks like it will have better straight penetration ability than the commander, and it feels terrific in reverse grip. I really like it. I found that I can't always carry a knife in my front pocket. I like front appendix carry, and the Commander just didn't do the trick. The Mach 1 seems like it is the CQC-8 of the production Emerson knives-the do-all. While it is not the "definitive Ernie answer", I hope this helps.

thanks guys...I did not mean to suggest that the mach1 was must a production version of the '8, just that I thought they looked alike from the pics and wondered if it was true in person....
guess I'll just have to buy one (and get divorced) and see for myself!
