Machax question: Ka-Bar vs. Camillus vs. Blackjack vs. Cincinatti. Which do I want?

I am a long time lurker and first time poster. i've decided I would like to have a Machax. I've searched and reviewed most of the threads on the subject and there is some good info in the forum, but I didn't see anything exactly on point. I did see the thread discussing the size difference between the Ka-Bar and the Camillus.

I would like your input on the subject of whether to go with the Ka-Bar or look for an older Machax. For those who have had several Machax or those who have studied the question, which do I want to look for and why? Looking for a using knife, not a collectible, but I am willing to spend the money within reason for the best iteration.

Thanks,

Michael

Go for a Ka-Bar. It still has warranty (should you need it) is an excellent tool, and can be had for a great price. IMHO the only reasons to go old school is to either get a knife that you once had and now don't for the nostalgia of having the exact same thing, or if the one you want is not being made like the RBK or the Brute. All in my own opinion, and all are great tools, you will be happy any way you go. Welcome to the forum!

Agreed. Grab a new Machax. It's my favorite knife (although my new BK15 is not far behind, let's see how it grows on me).

Camillus Machax bad.

Blackjack Becker best UNLESS it's got the grey epoxy sterile finish (avoid)

you want the black parkerized one imho, followed by the hard chrome (both by Blackjack). 25-30 years distant.

you can get a KaBar model RIGHT NOW though. so buy that in the meantime.

the blackjack epoxy model was ground by syphilitic llamas as far as i know. avoid.

it's an abortion. avoid avoid avoid.

I like the Cincinatti version best, though it should be said that never did have or use a camillus one and I didn't realize Blackjack ever made them.

Bang for the buck? Get the Ka-Bar. It resembles some of the older, slimmer versions much better than the Camillus model.

The Camillus one in hand feels like a tire iron with a mild edge. It is too fat. Haven't got to try a Blackjack. Kabar and Cincin chop about the same for me.

all the older models were thicker
