Machete?!?!?!?1?!

So for a while I have been contemplating purchasing a machete. After spending a few days hanging out here with some Beckerheads, I know a few things.

1. The BK-6 Patrol Machete will not return. (at least anytime soon)
2. The BK-1 will not either. (not a machete, but still a BFK!!)
3. There will most likely not be a blade longer than 10'' for a long time due to shop/machine limitations.

So that leads me to the question. What is a good machete for machete-esk camp/hiking tasks?
I like (judging from pics online) the Ka-Bar 14" grass machete, but I really want to buy US made if possible.

Oh, and I posted this here because Beckerheads just seem to be like-minded. Funny how that works. :D

BK5!!
Thin blade and quick in the hand. What else do you want in a machete-esk blade? And it makes julian fries; well it can. :D

Done I've answered his question we can now lock this thread and move on to the next question.

yes you in the back row waving your hand. What's your question.

The BK-5 certainly does do well as a short machete.

Another option for a US-made machete are the ones made by Ontario.

US made blade, Ontario. The 12" Cutlass machete is great, except you have to put an edge on it, and the handles need a mod or replacing. After that, they are great!

BHK, Fiddleback, ESEE Lite machete are South American made blades, sharpened and re-handled in USA. The Bark River modified Ontario machete seems nice, expensive but totally made in the USA. I've seen a couple of customs here on BF with nice grinds, handles, and sheaths, but one cost $180.

The Fiddleback Forge machetes have excellent handles, 12-14-16-18" varieties, and come shaving sharp. But, a Condor blade will also come sharp, same blade and HT, different handles and sheaths.

The Blind Horse machete sheath seems pretty cool.

It really depends on what you want to do with the machete, hardwood forest vs. jungle vs Zombies, vs clearing thorny bushes, etc. etc.. A 12" will be thicker, great for hardwoods, while a 18" or longer will be thinner, more flexible and give you reach and tip speed. There's more to it than that, but let us know what you will use it for.

mmmmmm.....pretty pictures.......

oh yeah. back to typing.

Good suggestion on the bk5, but I was thinking of something with a longer blade.
I might start helping my father in law keep up his hunting land, and thinking a longer blade would be better if we need to clear tall grass or brush from an area. Or also better for clearing brush and stuff helping some family at their farm.

Well when is Ethan going to design a machete? They would sell, if made for America, by Americans. The Bek-chete needs to exist, simply to give answer to this thread!

I was going to post the same question, but saw someone else had already done so. Hope the OP doesn't mind, if I jump in his thread. I need a machete to dismember wayward and aggressive spreading Bamboo, and GreenBriar. Zombies can wait for another time...

What are the specific camp chores/tasks you are looking to do? I say go with a bk9 It will do all the chopping, splitting, and battoning you would ever need. It’s also thin enough to get crazy sharp if you put a little time into it.

Yes, the BK-6 Patrol Machete would be awesome.
Last post I saw from Mr. Becker, he stated it wouldn't be anytime soon. No time in 2012.

I didn't see anything openly for sale while searching online. And when I found a Brute, they wanted over 2 bills!

And all are welcome here Grage!

Nsvens - mostly brush and grass clearing. I have a BK2 for chopping. Though I see a BK9 in future too!

Patrol machete would definitely fit the bill, but the Machax is supposed to be coming out soon.
ESEE Junglas is a good chopper/machete.
Ontario 12", 16", or 18" machete's are good -- and like just about any machete you buy, then need to have a final edge put on them. (their military models are the same blade length and profile, only thicker steel)
KaBar grass machete is made in Taiwan so if you're wanting a produced in the USA blade, that's not going to be it.
last, but not least, the woodsman's pal.

BK Patrol Machete definitely cuts like crazy. It's lethal on the dadgum multiflora rose.

It was the second BK&T to join my arsenal.

Hey Vik have any experience with the woodsman's pal? They always looked interesting but never knew anyone who had one, not sure if they are very efficient.
