I wasn't sure if I should put this in the machete or fire thread so I will start one for both. I've been wanting to see if a Fiddleback machete is as good as Andy claims, it is and more. It's the best machete I've ever held. It cuts like a laser but is tough enough to baton through 3" dry pine like its butter.
I've also been wanting to make a fire with flint and steel. After 15 minutes of struggle I reverted to a $3 fire steel I picked up at a Coleman store. I will study up more on flint and steel, and I will start one that way.
The pine catches quickly and it doesn't take long before the oak is added.
The machete makes quick work of the forked sticks for the franks. I thought the 12" size might be too short but I was wrong. It's the perfect balance for the jobs I'll put it through.
It's not steak or chicken but they can't beat getting my girls around a fire with me.
