Machete Failure = tang design?

One of my favorite machetes at the moment is a Martindale Golok #2 (edge reworked). It feels really sturdy. Today I saw this video which appears to be of a Martindale Golok and it shows that the handle/tang is hallow. Is this normal for "full tang" machetes?

and if so are handles/tangs such as this prone to fail as seen in the video?

Just curious. Thanks.

Tangs like that are going to fail much sooner than solid full tangs will, all else being equal. The inside corners create stress risers that are severe; a larger radius would have been much more durable for little added mass.

What I don't understand is why the tang had the cutout in the first place, was it to shift the balance to the front of the blade?

I dont think its the Martindale golok , I think its a copy , see the mark has a kind of dodgy /I\ Govt property sign , but is subtly different.

I doubt its a proper Martindale. Its quite common to see bad knock-offs of the MOD knife and No 2 Golok. If yours has the Crocodile logo it is real.

Yeah--that doesn't look like a Martindale mark on the blade. Seems like a knock-off to me. Martindale may have poor fit/finish but their blades/tangs are known for being anything but faulty.

Totally off topic, I thought the guy on video was Ozzy Osbourne from the way he talked.

I don't think it was a real Martindale either.

lol yeh, and did you see his post in the comments section where he suggests it would be suitable for killing people of certain ethnicity...what the hell?:confused:

Mine has the crock on one side and arrow on the other. I purchased mine from The Machete Specialists so I am sure its real. I just wasn't sure if Martindale, and other machetes, had hollow tangs like the one in the video. It makes no sense to me either.

P.S. Sorry I didn't put a warning regarding the idiotic comments. I usually pay little attention to those for just that reason.

Ya ok , Its most definetly not a Martindale , theres a thread about it a while back on British Blades forum , China made , stamped , no taper to the blade, and shorter than the Matindale Golok. I think they were made and sold to capitalise on the relative rarity of the martindale Golok model . The govt arrow is all wrong if you look carefully.

I dont think yours is one of these esp if it has croc , etc and supplied by Machetespecialist.
