I need a good machete any one have any recomendations. I need a strong one that keeps an edge.

Martindale Martindale Martindale! You can purchase them at Brigade Quartermasters.com for a good price and excellent customer service.

I prefer the Golok style. There are others that work well too.

I was going to post a little while ago to get a Collins, but as I bought mine many moons ago, I didn't. The Collins is a great working Machete, I own 4 of them, each bought at a different time of need south of the border. Steven

Ontario, but you'll need to fix the handle, If you're using it for a long time.

The 18” Ontario is a very good one. The new version with the molded D guard handles have no rivets to come loose (if you don’t like the D guard it is easy to saw off).

I really like the Ontarios and Martindales. Both hold their edges well especially after I reprofile the edges to a convex shape. The handles on most machetes are usually too blocky for me so a little reshaping is nice too. On the Ontario get the molded D guard model. The handle lends itself to reshaping a lot better than the rivited model. Now don't take this as they aren't good right out of the box. It's just that with a little tweaking they are sooooo much better :) Here's a couple I modded. The little guy was an 18in sawback model and the bigger one was an 18in D guard model

+1 on the Martindales and Daren Cutsforth is a good guy to do business with on that front.

Cheaper machete? I've used the Tramontinas with a lot of success. They work well and hold an okay edge. SMKW usually has them for a song.

TM1157, I just noticed that you're new here. Welcome to BF.

You may not know about the Search function. Have a go at it, and you'll find quite a lot of old posts where people have debated brands of machetes...usually here or over in the Wilderness forum.

If your going to be doing work where the blades gonna contact rocks and other hard materials and you dont wanna spend alot go with the tramontinas I pick em up locally for 5-7bux depending on the size if they get dented and busted up I go buy another. If it's heavy chopping go with ontario's 12 or 18 inch and convex the edge.
