I made a machete sheath that may interest some of you. Jeff Randall [who,I assume, has had a machete in his hand more than I will in 5 lifetimes] says he uses duct tape on the edge until he hits the field then goes without a sheath. I canoe trip and I wanted some sort of sheath to carry my machete. I'm sure my machete is carried a larger % of the time and used a lot less than Jeff uses his.
I cut 2 4"x [length of blade] strips out of a worn out Rubbermaid trash can. I put solid rivets around the perimeter [of 3 sides obviously.] I drilled a few extra holes and tied loops of paracord through them. Voila, a machete sheath that can be clipped or lashed to anything. It isn't a belt hanger [unless you use a biner as a frog] but that isnt' my primary carry mode. Mine is strapped to a backapck or binered to other gear in my boat. Most machetes don't come with a sheath and I'm sure that in the tropics my sheath would rust a blade overnight. For my use however, it's a cheap and protective solution. I love big blades and thought this may help someone.
