hello my friends i am new to this forum, and am seeking an inquiry about a knife that my father gave me years ago, it is huge, looks like a buck knife but the blade overexceeds the handle the knife is 12 inches long folded and 17 inches long unfolded only markings on the blade are stainelss pakistan, i am looking to find out if anyone has come across one of this ones and would llike to know what kind of knife it is, the possible manufacturer, value, what is was made for etc. once again thank you for accepting me in your site and and thank you in advance for any response and advice i get.
oh, and would like to know if i should make any type of maintenance to it for example it has some surface rust spots on the blade which im sure will come out with some steel wool and rust cleaner and the handle is fine but just looks dirty but otherwise its in good condition hope i posted in the right section, sorry if i didnt :)

Welcome to the forums! Unfortunately, pretty much any knife that says "MADE IN PAKISTAN" on it is worth virtually nothing. Pakistan is consistently known for producing knives of very low quality, at least when it come to the export market. The style of knife you have there is an old one that's been around for some time, and was usually carried in a sheath like a fixed blade due to the extra blade sticking out of the handle. As you may have already guessed this allows for choking up on the knife for detail work, as well as use for heavier, larger tasks--though given its provenance I'd be wary of tackling anything too difficult with it lest it become damaged and possibly injure you.

thank you very much for your response in a way i kinda figured what u just told me, since the "pakistan" on it didnt have me too convinced of its quality, i guess ill just shine it up and put it on display since it does look intimidating lol and good as a conversation piece, might make a nice adornment for the house once again i appreciate your advice.
