I leave my Cutlass Machete in my car most of the time, but I'm not sure what the law says about such things. I'm in upstate NY, near Canada and VT.

If it can be accessed by you in one or two quick moves, most courts would rule that you are carrying a dangerous weapon in a motor vehicle. May not be a problem if your vehicle is never searched but if you are pulled over, that machete may slide out from under the seat as you are applying the brakes. It would then be in "plain view", so what would have been a civil traffic citation will probably turn into a felony arrest on a weapons charge. Carry your machete in the trunk, locked up and out of sight. Why go looking for trouble?

Agreed. Definitely in the trunk. Go with a giant mag light or a bat up front. No law against sporting goods within "reachable distance".

Machete would end up as criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree (a misdemeanor) probably.

Throw a baseball and glove in there with the bat or you may have a problem with that also. I got hassled in Ct for having a bat only in the back of my p.u.--KV

if you want it for self defense, get a piece of metal pipe, say 4 ft long.....when asked what its for tell them leverage on the tire iron by sliding onto the tire iron and leaning on it

and ya....i probably need to move the hawk that i have in my truck....in the drivers door pocket
