i have a cold steel bolo machete , i love it to death. you can chop , cut , slash ,hammer , dig , the list goes on, plus its easy to sharpen. anyway i was wondering if you guys have/like/use machetes?

How does you hand feel when you chop with it. Every machete I have used has resulted very quickly in blisters. As a result, I don't use one unless there is no other choice. I am looking for one that the handle does not cause blisters so quickly if such an animal exists.

I jave an old crockadile machete, and have never had blister problems with the marginally finished wire wrapped wood handle. Maybe technique?

Maybe it is just that I have fairly non-callused hands? There may be a techniquie issue too, since this has happened off and on for over 20 years.

yeah its probably technique , as my hands aren`t all that callused , me only being 20 years old. bolo machetes are cool . i love knives , swords and machetes , they`re an awesome hobby and so useful.

We are in the SOG forum but the thread started with a Cold Steel so here goes:rolleyes:
Tramonti makes an excellent user machete.
As for blisters, you could see if gloves help.

Well, I am getting a Becker "Brute". Not sure wheather it is classified under Machete. I wanted a machete and the shop keeper recommendaed to me that knive. So far, all the reviews about this knive looks great! I wonder if it's a machete at all! It's blade is 9 1/2". I want to get a machete for forest bashing and exploration. Any recommendation?

I know this thread may be inappropriate for the SOG forum, but I am interested in machete use technique. I do wear a leather glove usually. Do you grip it very firmly? I believe the impact vibrations and resulting movement inside the hand causes most of the blisters. What do you think?

i`m going to buy a cold steel bushman next weekend, the knife appeals to me , plus it has an sk5 blade

I have a 2 handed cold steel machette, it's excellent, saves your back when ground cutting and with 2 hands on the cutting is awsome.

For all the CS machete owners (myself included) The July 2006 Tactical Knives Magazine has an interesting article on them...pretty cool, machetes are made by a company called Lashers in Africa.......yeah, yeah, this is the Sog Forum ; and so is my EDC (Flash II).....

Go to town and hire you a Mexican or Guatemalan kid to help you for a day.
Take him to a hardware and let him pick out a machete, buy two and let him show you how to use it.
I guarantee my employees can make nicer cuts on a tree trim job than any of the ragazine writers or armchair warriors can with a saw or even power tools.
I've seen them actually cut large areas of grass and the final product looked like it was done with a mower !

I've gotten pretty fair but when the see me they still laugh and take over :o
It's technique, balance, and sharpening methods.

The best machetes I have have only BRAZIL stamped on them. The handles are wood and the kids will steel wool the hell out of the handles and sharpen them with a file before the first use.

We use 22-24 inch " Latin style blades" around the swamp.

They call all of the curvy , Bolo, looking ones " Basura" meaning garbage.

"Go to town and hire you a Mexican or Guatemalan kid to help you for a day." Man, where is my brain.... I should have thought of that!! I do believe it is all about technique, balance, and sharpness. That is why I asked.
