Hi guys. Nice web site you have going here.

I am thinking of ditching my saw and hatchet/axe for a machette the next time I go canoe tripping in central Ontario Canada.

Any advice as to type/style and recommended manufacturers would be welcome.

I enjoy using quality tools. So I'm thinking you folks can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in adavance for your help.

Well English manufacturer Ralph Martindale is suppose to make the best in the world but nobody imports a wide selection of them into the USA. Their site is

Becker Knife and tool makes a good one so does Ontario

Youy want one about 16-18 inches long made from carbon steel.

Go with the Becker chopper, its handle is much more user friendly than the Ontario hacker.

Al - welcome to the forums!

Take a look at the BK&T Patrol Machete. It's a great high quality machete: great steel, great handle. great blade shape. The Ontario machetes are also very good for the price if you are looking for an inexpensive machete. Later this year KABAR will be unveiling their new machete line up and Cold Steel will begin offering a bolo. If you can wait a long time, these two sound like good users too.
