Machined checkering?

I was fly cutting a scale last night in ironwood and was checking the pattern to see if I was fairly trammed.
Looking at the lines I got to thinking, this might work for some checkering or at least texturing scales. ?

Were the scales sanded first? If not, you might try that next time.

Looks a little rough, can you clean it up any without loosing the texture?

It will work to some degree, but will be much rougher than hand checkering ... and curved.

Hand checkering is enjoyable ... and relaxing ... once you get it down.
