Being a poor college kid, I can't afford the Machinery's Handbook, at least not a new verison, but I want the information on heat treating ranges for steel and everything there. For those of us short on change who realy just want those charts on steel, might look at the Pocket Companion for this book. It's 17.95 from Industrial Press, and had the tempering and heat treating temps for all normal steels(D, A O W, 10xx, 51xx etc), least think it did. Been long week. :) I was just looking at O series today personally. But it seems that for most of us this would be a valid option(though I will get full book sometime for same reason I have all the rest of my books, knowledge for sake of knowledge).

You can often find copies of the handbook on Ebay. Versions that are several years old can be found pretty inexpensively.
