Machining marks on Sebenza 21 lockbar

Hi,

I did a search first, but couldn't find anything on the subject.

I just received a Large Sebenza 21 and I noticed something I've never noticed on any other CRK I've owned to date.

It has some machining marks on the lockbar. Anyone here seen these before? I'm not questioning the authenticity of the knife, just curious if any other Sebenza has these marks on them.

If this has been discussed before I apologize - I searched and couldn't find any thread(s) about it.

I can't really see anything in that pic?

Maybe you're talking about the two "groves" that go under the pocket clip?

Completely normal, not sure when they started doing that, but I am sure someone can answer that...

What's the birth date on the card in the box? Wonder if that's a new update to the design?

My tanto micarta is from 2012 and it also has those grooves. = ). Plain jane from 2011 doesn't. Too lazy to check the rest, but I am interested in why/when these little guys were thought to be a good idea.

Adds more character to the knife. Thanks for pointing it out.

yeah I don't mine them, I think they are cool. It's just that I've had a good 15 or so Sebenza run through my hands but never noticed those until now.

Those marks have been machined into the lockbar side for awhile. It's thought they are a transition from polished scale to non-polished lockbar.
It could also be a stress relief from the cut on the other side of the scale to help bend the lockbar into it's desired position.

^^^^Correct, it's only on the inlaid CRK's. It denotes where the polished lock bar starts. Even though the micarta is not polished, evidently the same style of lock side slab is used.

I've noticed them before - just never realized that they weren't on all of them. LOL

This is what I remember reading some time ago. The grooves are a transition from sandblasted to polished on the inlay models. The Micarta models use the same slabs as the wood models, so even though they are not polished, they have those transitional grooves.

Guess it's only on the large inlaid CRK's because I have some small inlaid 21's and they don't have that on them.

This is my first large Micarta 21, probably the reason why I've never noticed it.

My C 11 micarta Insingo Sebenza has those grooves. Never noticed it on any other Sebenzas I've owned either.

These are normal for inlaid Sebenzas (most if not all).

These grooves go way back, I have a 1999 with a huge groove on the lockbar side.

Tapatalk.

I have a Small 21 Micarta from 2011 that has these machined grooves. Only Sebenza I've had that had these.

This is probably just a case of having an extra part and throwing it on another equivalent knife. Frankly, I'm surprised that your small inlays don't have them.
