Mackinac or lone star hunter?

Toss a coin. Both classically good-looking knives. I prefer the Lone Star's flat grind myself.

I bet. Just look at where it's placed on the thumb stud model to get the right opening action.

I really love my Lone Star Hunter. It is very comfortable to use, and very attractive. The clip is a bit stiff but I just bent mine out a little and now its fine. I do like the flat grind better on it, but I chose it more for its larger size and because it is shaped like a "folding hunter" pattern traditional knife, while the Mackinac is designed after the Buck 110, complete with the 110 style blade grind. Both are great knives, its up to you wether you want the four inch blade or something a little smaller.

I just tried my Buck 110's Kwik thumb stud on mine, it fits fine.

Yes, the Lone Star and Mackinac have been discontinued, so grab the ones you want while they're still available. I have the thumb stud versions of the Lone Star and Mackinac, and don't want the nail nick versions.

This is Australia , Nanny state to the f&@king extreme , we " have" to have the nail nick version , as any folder that can be opened by one hand can be confiscated by customs. So I decided to go the lone star hunter , and I've ordered a Kwik thumb stainless stud for it as well.

Hi from across the ditch.

I would suggest the ultimate response to the machinations of your government bodies is to grab something like a traditional Navaja, 19-22cm in length. They obviously can't be opened with one hand, with the carraca they can't even open them by shaking them out, but unlike the Delicas or Ladybugs that are one handed opening, they are a weapon designed to substitute for a short sword. The carraca was the last thing heard by many a man in the dark streets of a Spanish town. There are Spanish websites around that stock them. Also don't forget the Cold Steel Eland. Although they've been discontinued they're a very large two handed opening folding knife that is mercifully cheap. I have three.

I have both and like both. The Lone Star is a little more comfortable in hand and a little smoother to unlock. I prefer the flat grind to the hollow too.
