Mad Dog knife question

I just recently purchased a Mad Dog Bearcat (being shipped), and was reading all the hubbub about Mad Dog's knives (a couple ATAK's) breaking in heavy testing (questions about the legitimacy of the knives were discussed, etc. etc. etc. - a whole lotta drama) and read also about his blades chipping, and was wondering if a Bearcat, being a shorter blade than the ATAK (only 5.4 in.), even though being 3/16 thick, would've passed the same tests?

I don't want this to be a heated thing, just a hypothetical question....Kinda worrying now after reading all this stuff, and really want a blade I can trust. Was also thinking of getting a Swamp Rat Howling Rat (it passed all the tests..)

Would enjoy some input, or reassurances~Thanks!

i think his knives are good, not as good as he thinks lol, but good nonetheless, probably a little overpriced for what ya get, some would say a LOT overpriced, he does make a good sheath though. they also feel good in the hand FWIW.

they are good knives and will serve ya just fine imho.

better than a busse?? better than a strider?? not imho. as good, but not better.

a good knife though.

Long after the mad dog is gone destroyed, sold or traded, your swamp rat blade will be chugging along. They are not as good end of story.

Skam

the busse steel/heat treat is proprietary.

there have been some swamprats that were differentially treated, and had nice hamons.

The busse's are through hardened and tempered. They're so tough at 58-60rc a differential heat would only serve to make the blade weaker.
