Mad dog knives

McClung's knives are generally discussed most on his forum, check tacticalforums.com . There have been threads on Bladeforums, however most discussion tends to focus where the makers/manufacturers themselves read/post.

Having met Kevin several times my understanding is he rarely/never visits knife forums. He has a worldwide following who usually stay on his site.

Im very interested in checking one out - maybe someday. I've heard that they are excellent quality knives. I could give a rats ass about any fueding - leave me out of it.
I like good knives.. period.

"How come we hardly ever see threads about them on this forum?"

When you find and read the threads, the answer will be evident.

"Am I just not looking hard enough?"

Check the archives. There are plenty of threads about them, there.

Well, I have never owned one, but I have held many at knife shows. I have always like their ergonomic feel. They are a little more confortable in my hand than Mission knives which are similarly designed.

They use O-1 steel which has always been a good carbon steel. They are 1/4 inch flat ground fairly wide blade. Should be strong in the 7 inch or less size. mt only gripe has always been their chrome lating of the steel. Get one without the chrome plating and you're set.

Mission argues McClung's handles are too shape specific and different hand sizes can throw them off, this is true but they are customs, or can be anyway, last I heard he will shape the hand to fit the user on request.

From memory they are one of the nicest grips I have used, I would like a slightly more aggressive texture is all but you can rough sand them anyway. I like the fact the grips fully enclose the tang.

I like the general design on most of the utility blades, clean working designs. I'd drop the hardness on the larger blades, Swamp Rat has a better edge holding / durability balance for them.

Is he still doing that, I know he switched coaters more than once.

I don't know if he is, but I don't care either. If I were buying one though, I would want to find out.
