Does anyone know if the ATAK model has a shapened top edge also. Any info would be appreciated.

i dont think so, IIRC.

i imagine someone who knows for sure will pop in and tell ya, but if not 'dogs forum is tacticalforums.com , FWIW.

No it doesn't have the sharpened swedge for 200%. It even does not have the false edge so there's nothing to be sharpened on top of the tang. If you want double edge MD take a look at the voodoo fighter series. The voodoo hound is the same length as ATAK although the balance is quite different. It feels way lighter and is quicker in hand than ATAK.

While on the subject, what's everyone's opinion of MD's knives. I think they feel awesome in hand and are incredibly balanced but man, they sure are expensive! I'm just not sure if they are worth the price for me.

i had one for a while, great sheath by the way, i thought it was "ok", i dont think they are superior to a lot of other custom and semi custom fixed blades, busse for example, they are probably overpriced but they hold there value well if ya ever wanna sell/swap it, they also have well designed grips imho.

not a bad knife by any means, i dont know that its better than, say a busse though, and a busse is usually a lot cheaper FWIW.

<<<SFX: the sound of popcorn being passed>>>

;) - sorry; couldn't resist. ;)

If you're going to spend that kind of money on a knife it would be better to save up a bit longer and get a custom by Jay Fisher.

Neither the company nor the knives particularly impress me, although I will admit that their aesthetics kick ass. Too many warning lights have been set off in my head about Mad Dog for me to throw any money their way.

:eek::eek::eek:
Going for popcorn and a Coke.

Not touchy subjects, just touchy people. :)

The MD product is a very good one... just like the 'Benza. Like any other marque, it has its limitations.

Years ago, any question about Mad Dog knives would start off a big controversy. That doesn't happen any more. It takes at least two sides to make a controversy....

this is interesting, I wasn't around when BF was like this...Did people come to a consensus? (didn't know that was possible:D) Or did MD defenders give up? (also doesn't seem likely) Did MD greatly lose popularity?
I'm just curious definately NOT trying to start an argument

Years ago, Cliff Stamp did some knife tests on a pair of TUSKs and an ATAK, and they all failed pretty quickly probably due to overhardened edges which chipped. They did not stand up to Cliff's standard testing regimen when much cheaper blades did. Reports from other MD owners confirmed similar failures.

The contraversy started when the owner of MD Knives claimed it was abuse (even claimed one was a forgery). This from the maker of supposedly the 'toughest' knives around. Other knife manufacturers regularly stand behind their knives and address issues brought up by Cliff.

Nowadays everythng has settled down as MD fans visit other forums and there are plenty of other 'extreme" knife manufacturers whose knives do stand up to Cliff's testing.

"google" the tests and see for yourself.

I wasn't here when it happened but as far as I can tell the Mad Dog crowd left and founded their own forum where they can ban everyone who isn't worshipful enough.
