Mad Max should be in production!

I really love the look of the Mad Max and the positive reviews just make my mouth water more. Unfortunately it is out of my maximum price range by a factor of at least three.

Is there any chance that some smart knife company will license the design and produce a more affordable (say, under $200) version?

I think I could see CRK&T taking this knife and doing a well made version of it. Some things may have to change, i.e. aluminum handles vs. titanium Darrel uses. Blade steel should be a premium steel. Just saw it. Aluminum would not work as an integral lock! Well titanium may not be out of range. Might even look good as a liner lock with steel likers and G-10 overlays. Of course it would not be as strong a lock-up as the integral lock, and believe me this is one more LOCK, but might work. Just my observations. Others may differ!

It would be nice for a company like Benchmade, Spyderco or REKAT to make a production version. I think the materials would be of a higher quality than CRKT's. How about an Axis-lock version? Mmmm...

Folks relax, you're talking about Darrel Ralph a maker with more knives going into production than you can imagine. This guy can't pass wind without some manufacturer wanting to reproduce it. In fact you'd have a pretty nice collection if you just bought DDR collaborations.

I think I have all of them so far...but I want more!

Someday I will be able to afford a few of his customs. For now I am really enjoying the production versions. His design work is consistantly beautiful as well as functional.

I really would love to see a production Mad Max. I hope one (or more) of the manufacturers are hounding him about it!

I'll admit that I would rather not see CRKT do it. I own several of their knives and I respect their work, but I prefer higher-end materials than CRKT is currently using.

Is there some way we can persuade Benchmade to produce the Mad Max? Or Spyderco? Or REKAT?

I think it's Darrel you'd have to persuade. The collaborations are more work and hassle than they might seem - a handmade knife doesn't necessarily lend itself easily to affordable production, and Darrel wouldn't want his name on a substandard product. There are also already a variety of DDR integral lock production folders in the pipe, with at least one flipper on the way.

Gosh, where can I get a Darrell Ralph Fighting And Resistance Tool (F.A.R.T)?

LMAO. As long as it's a knife, we're all OK

I think Benchmade would be the best bet, since they already make a fairly heavy-duty integral lock knife, so they are already set up with suppliers for thick Ti, and they know somethign about machining it (Ti is very tricky).

Lest you forget, CRKT has been making the S-2 with the same grade titanium everyone else uses for years.

I do agree that if they were to get involved in such a project that I'd like to see them extend themselves farther than ATS-34 steel-wise. Hey, maybe they can get some of that PREMIUM AUS8A stuff Cold Steel uses!

Unless Mr. Ewing shares and tells us the expectd price point of the Delta Z is substantially higher, you have to remember that all of Mr. Ralph's collaborations have come in around or under the $50 mark. ( I have 2 of them on their way in the mail and am going crazy waiting.)

I'm gonna hang in there and hope for "my" CRKT.
