My father sent a shipment of 12 Madal drums to me for those
of you waiting for them and Christmas sale. For some reason, the US customs
refused to allow them into the country and returned them to Nepal.

So, for now, I cannot offer the drums for sale. I will try again
when I find out why this shipment got refused.

The why really would be interesting to hear. I can't even think of a legit reason that musical instruments would be refused.

I'd guess those drums are made of wood and animal skin, that could be a reason why customs didn't let them through, a lot of countries are kinda strict on that.
When our company ships a palette of goods to Australia we have to fill out a load of paperwork stating that everything made of wood was treated against parasites.
They are very strict on that, maybe its the same in the US ?

I know some Customs guys, and most likely they were rejected because of a proven pest infestation, or the wood did not meet the rules. Un-treated wood can not be imported, and if there was any animal product it cant be endangered or raw.
I believe if you were to paint or shellac the wood, inside and out, it would kill any bugs, and be ok for importation.

Some khukuri and sheaths probably use the same materials. Customs just looked at their schedule and said it's time to mess with HI again, it has been awhile.
