AWESOME!!!AWESOME!!!AWESOME!!! only way to describe it! MADD MAXX came in on Saturday. You can bet I was excited to see that brown truck pull up Saturday morning! I, like most of you, have a certain ritual I follow when I get a new knife. A certain ritual in the inspection of a knife to see if it passes the test. Well MM passed with flying colors! As Mr. Dundee would say, " now this is a knife"!
First thing I look for is to see if the blade sits square in the handle. It does. Next I check out the finish. It passes. BTW I have the ceramic peen which is a pleasing satin gray in color. Thirdly I open and check the blade lock to see how much travel it has. Just perfect. Most importantly I check the blade play. NONE! The integral lock is TIGHT. Now there is more to it than this, but these are the primary points I check out.
It took a little getting used to the opening system. You cannot use the thumb button to open. Of course I don't think this is a thumb button to begin with! It is a blade stop button and is quite a button. Heavy duty like the rest of the knife. Once I got the hang of it it is a snap to open, no pun intended. The blade is the bowie style and is sharp as the proverbial razor with perfect grinds. The flats have a coarse satin finish while the hollow grind is ceramic peen. A very pleasing contrast.
One of the most amazing aspects of this knife is how well it fits in your pocket. The clip is mounted high so that very little sticks out of your pocket. I was worried that the "flippers" would hang up in my pocket but have not done so. I've carried it in jeans and in dress pants with the slash pockets and had no problems. It is flat enough not to print and light enough not to pull your pocket down. I do not know the weight but do know that it is distributed well for such a large knife. It just plain feels good in your hand!
This is a 2 day observation and I will update it after I have carried it a while longer. I have been impressed enough to go ahead and order the smaller version of the knife. There is also a larger version in the works. A seven inch blade model!
Last of all I want to comment on the maker of this knife. I emailed Darrel enough to be a nuisance but Darrel ALWAYS mailed me back and did so quickly. I had planned to take this knife to a knife show in Charlotte this past Saturday and Darrel worked to get the knife to me by Saturday morning so I could take it. Unfortunately, I did not get to go. My better half had OTHER plans that day; read this as EARLY SPRING CLEANING! Be that as it may, Darrel, you are quite a gentleman and I appreciate your hard work in getting this knife to me!
All I can say now is MADD MAXX RULES!!!!!!!!!
