Maddox designed fixed blade?

Blade: 440C, 1 7/8" x 2 1/4" (Sort of Ulu shaped), hollow ground.
Handle: about 4 1/2" epoxy-wood laminate.
 
Joe Maddox came to Spyderco with a design that he created for those that did not have the use of both hands. He developed the model after many designs and protos for a friend of his that had the use of only one hand. The goal was to make it easier for a person with that handicap to be able to cut their own food. It was difficult and embarrassing to have to ask someone to cut your food. We tested the model using people with that problem and reports were positive. The knife made it possible for one handed prople to easily cut their own food.

Joe is very passionate about his design. We felt that it was a good cause with a real need and decided to make them and see if we could be of assistance in that world.

I've used the Maddox knife at home for everything from chopping garlic to cutting dinner in place of a steak knife, and it does work very well.

We'll be making them in the Golden plant Steel is 440C, handle is an epoxy wood laminate. Sheath is Kydex. Scheduled delivery is early in 2003.
