Made a new sheath to secure my new BR Aurora.

I made this sheath yesterday for my Bark River Aurora. I like to make this type that originally came with a Buck Knife. Though other designs can be secure I have never had a knife fall out of a sheath of this design. Pay $200.00 for a knife you sure don’t want to lose it.

Nice job, I agree that your practical design being the most secure, however, I still favor the pouch style for this knife. The guard area has plenty meat on it to incorporate a good retention fit.....but that's just me.
Again, that's a good looking outfit...for a lefty no less!!

I like it! It looks like a very well-made sheath.

I agree with you both that pouch sheaths can be very secure. That being said, this type does offer the most protection for your knife under rougher conditions. I grew up carrying a Buck in a sheath like this, so it looks like a "natural" to me! :D

Yeah, the lefty thing always has me making new sheaths, probably why I started working in leather. When I look at the old Buck 102 sheath it’s pretty beat up.

I make a lot of the pouch style, if I understand what you mean by pouch style, I’m still new around here and haven’t nailed down the vernacular yet. Still when the canoe flips, not that it happens often, I want to know my knife didn't take a swim, though I know that a well made sheath of the type I think you mean will hold a knife securely.

I made these.
Neck knife, did this one about 5 years ago

This was my first attempt at making a knife, the sheath is ambidextrous and common to the fur trade era.

This one I made a few days ago for another neck knife.

Yep...that's what I mean by pouch style....very nice work...you seem to have an artistic element in your work going on...thanks for sharing.

you seem to have an artistic element in your work

Thanks, simple and functional is by far the best but I am always trying to achieve some kind of balance. I’m not anything like an artist though I’ve been accused of that.

Either I try to balance the objects or with slight tweaking I can accentuate the item I want the attention or eye drawn too. Sometimes I go overboard just to push the limits, it’s usually a waste of time but occasionally I want the object to be “in your face” tacky or elegant. Two examples of what I mean.

“in your face elegant”

and “in your face tacky” though not a leather project I made this ugly little bass as one of my trailer trash series of instruments. Mudflap girls on the cigar box and a pole dancer on the headstock but this bass is concert scale and sounds phenomenal, a real sleeper.

Hey man, nice work!

(nice handle choice on the Aurora too)

Hey Mike, you got some nice looking stuff your self. My web site used to be more focused on leather stuff but I'm AD I just keep bopping from one thing to the next.
