Hi guys!

I´m always searching for traditional knives from all over the world. So I asked rinos if there are any traditional knife patterns down there in Croatia. He told me that there´s a knife pattern. I asked him making a swap. So we did. I sent him my Mercator knife, Solingen. I hope it will arrive down there in Croatia soon.

But here is the knife I got from Rino

It is a friction folder. I just have another with this locking mechanis. I really like friction folders. The ring with rope make the knife really look traditional and it can´t be lost

The steel is stainless and Rino made a great edge on it. It´s like a razor. The blade is rather thin, so this one will make a great slicer.

Imo this is a good knife and size for EDC tasks.

Thank you Rino, for making the swap! :)

Kind regards
Andi

Looks like you got a nice knife there, Andi. It's interesting to see the different traditional knives from elsewhere around the world. Thanks for giving us a look at it.

Very cool knife, Andi!

I can see the appeal of the simple working knife from around the world. Opinels, Mercators, Friction folders all have that appeal of being a real working tool. There's a no frills real world look to them.

Carl.

Very cool knife Andi, thanks for sharing.
First Croatian knife I see, but it looks very familiar to me. Aside from the specific pattern, the "idea" behind this knife is very similar to Italian knives (it looks alot like a "Senese" to me...well, Croatia is not really far ) so I do like it alot.

Perfect working knife

I wanted to get one Mercator for some time, and Andi provided perfect opportunity, and i think i got better part of deal ;)
Unfortunatly my knife is just pale version of knives once made and used here(pattern is widely spread in all parts of this corner of World,so it canot be strictly called croatian knife,if there is such a knife)Scales should be made from sheeps horn, blade forged from carbon steel, but nobody make them anymore.
Origins could be from Roman times,so nothing strange in simmilarities with knives from Italy or Spain or.....
Thanks Andi.

Hi Rino!

I´m glad you like the Mercator. It has already followed me sometimes as an EDC. The Mercator is very historical pattern.

Your knife is a great addition to my collection. You made a great job on the edge. I like it very much. Thank you for this :)

Kind regards
Andi

This is a very cool thread.

I'm very glad you both shared photos of the trade.

Congrats to you both!

Andi, you did make a great swap! Sort of like the one I made with a guy a while back! I picked up a great little knife in that trade, too!:D It's riding in my pocket today.

Hi guys!

Thank you for your replies!

@ron: I know this knive anyhow ;) I´m glad you like that fellow. It followed me for already some times. The swap we made, was also pretty great. The two US made Schrade´s I got from you, get the way in my pocket. I like them very much. That was another great swap :)

Kind regards
Andi

Hi, I know it's an old thread...
but I'm doing a research and would like to know a little more about "traditional" croatian knives. I'd appreciate any info as it's hard to find anything about classic croatian knives online. Thanks

Hello, it IS an old thread, and you might get better information if you start a new one. You might also do better here - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/f...-Levine-s-Knife-Collecting-amp-Identification .

Of course, the forum 'Search' function is always worth a try first.

Good luck
