Bought the "Farmers Cut" scraps at Hobby Lobby. Got 3 lb"s for 7 dollars. Made a friction sheath for Leatherman. It the first sheath I made from scratch. There is enough leather for several sheaths. Most of the leather is probably just good for welts or small projects. The packaging is clear so you can kind of choose what kind of scraps your getting. It wet formed well, but it really doesn't take a stamp well. You can see on this one that I tried to tool it a little. I don't think the leather is oil tanned because it absorbs water well when wet forming. It's not good for tooling, but it's great for a novice like me to practice with. Here's a few pics. The sheath is not "finished," but it is probably as far as I'm gonna take it.

I actually just bought one of the same bags of leather and wanted to try my hand at some stuff. That's why I just joined the forum to learn some stuff. I like what you've done so far would like to see what else you get from that leather.

Welcome to the forum Muffin. This is from the same bag and starts as the picture above, stapled to the board in the middle of wet forming. Here it is finished. My first scout style sheath:

Please post some pics of what you come up with. I am very interested.

I also want to thank Horsewright and Gary for their informative posts. I've been really studying your posts, and they have helped me immensely !!
Actually there is too many people to mention, so thanks to all you guys who post and assist the readers of this forum, and especially those of you who are the encouragers(Leatherman, just to name one of many).

Thanks for the encouragement Leatherman. Means a lot.

Thank You, I dont know if you've found "The Frugal Leather Craftsman" yet, but its soon to be picked back up. You dont need a thousand bucks in tools to do good stuff. I have yet to hit that and been at it since 1997. :D

Nice job. I love making sheaths.

sheaths are very fun to make. probably my favourite to make. I really enjoyed making stacked leather sheaths but lately ... i'm intot the folded leather phase ... i might line my next one with embossed pig skin ... meh. the possibilities are endless when you make stuff for yourself lol. I wouldnt be able to make stuff to sell ... people are too picky , cheap and want everything for nothing.

on a side note looks good , keep at it. you can only get better from here!
