Hi guys!

A few weeks ago, I believe it could have been roundabout six weeks, Duncan (Campbellclanman) told me, that he has a knife for me. He let me choose between an US made Schrade and a very classy looking german made Carl Schlieper. I chose the Carl Schlieper :p !
I decided to send him also a knife. It was my Otter Sodbuster which made it on its way towards NZ.

So I waited... Suddenly a little package appeared, it was sent from the US. It was a little strange, because I had nothing on the order. I found a letter and two knives in there. Wayne (Peruna1998) told me, that Duncan bought a Böker Barlow for me. Wayne also added a nice little knife, a Schrade (US-made) Stockman. This was a great gesture of you both, guys. Thanks so much.

Today a little package arrived. From NZ. In there was one the best finished knives, I´ve ever seen. It´s an old Carl Schlieper. Duncan told me, that it was made in 1940s. The Carl Schlieper is completely new and in an excellent condition. Even the little sticker, from the time, when it was sold is still on the bail of the knife.

But I think, I gonna let the pictures talk for themself!

The Böker Barlow... that piece has a mighty snap 8 of 10. The minor blade play is has, doesn´t matter. It fits very nice in pocket. I really like it.

The Stockman I got by Wayne is also in great condition. No blade play or whatever. The Delrin (I believe, it´s Delrin) are nicely jigged and the blades are in a very fine condition. Thank you, Sir! That´s a great knife :)

Every single one of them is gonna make a fine part of my rotation (which is getting bigger and bigger).

I´m looking forward seeing some of Duncan´s pics of the Otter Soddie.

This forum is full of generous gentleman. I can hardly tell. Thank you guys and a great thanks to every single member of this forum.

Kind regards
Andi

Hi Wayne! Good to see you again. Yes, you´re right - that Schlieper is really a looker!

Kind regards
Andi

I love this stuff! It's what keeps me coming back here! Thanks for showing those Beauties Andi:thumbup:

What fine friendship ! Andi is the Boker USA or Germany ?
The Schrade RB825 is an excellent example of a late 1970's - early 1980's Schrade USA folder. The handles are Delrin. Schrade was the first knife company to use this Dupont invention beginning in 1960-61. Dupont spent millions of dollars developing different formulae to get this plastic just right for knife handle useage. I believe that Albert Baer, the owner of Schrade played a key role in getting Dupont to create this product.
I don't doubt the 1940's date for the Schlieper but i'd like to know how Duncan dates them. I have quite a few Schlieper knives and can tell the differences between 'older' ones and those of very recent production, but i cannot figure out how to give even approximate dates for the older ones.

Hi Duane!

Thank you for the kind words, Sir. :)

Hi Roland!

The Böker Tree Brand must have been american made. In Germany, the Tree Brand series has not been sold, as much as I know from emailing to Böker, Germany. Germans don´t like the style, I was told.
Thank you about the interessting information about the Schrade Stockman. I didn´t know about the history in plastic used this way. Only thing I knew about Delrin was, that it first was used as a material on car-control-wheels.
About the Schlieper - I got the information from Duncan, that this was made in this era. About the dates (tang stamp etc.) I can hardly tell. I gonna give a searching through their manufacturers site for more information.

Kind regards
Andi

Thanks for the pics Andi, and congrats to everybody in this exchange of kindness. As for many other times here (and very few outside of this subforum), everybody wins :)

Im so glad it finally arrived!, and Wayne...thats a very cool knife kind Sir...Andi..you are a deserving recipient.
Roland the info was given to me by Vince , apparently new old stock-but I cant tell you much more, and Im taking it that Vince recieved the info as well? I dont mean to pull the wool over anyones eyes by stating the date, what I can tell you, I own one of these as well, and it is my most used edc....its a absolute fantastic knife with lovely actions..and sharpens so nicely to a razor edge! I use the awl for scribing wood, so many things.
If someone could help us out there?..that would be great.
I must get my camera out again, as I took photos of Andi great soddie he sent me-and they werent the best at all.
Andi...thank you so much for this wonderful knife, man its sharp!...please give me a couple of days to get some photos going.
Thank you once again Andi

Hi Duncan! :)

Thank you for the kind words, Sir. I know, it took some time until it arrived. It seems shipping in my direction takes longer than in any other. But now, it´s done well.

Yes, the C. Schlieper is a great knife. I already liked it, when I got it in hand. I´m sure, it will good in my rotation. It would be great knowing more about it. I was already searching through Carl Schliepers homepage, but the site seems be still under construction. Nothing very helpful about dates and ages. Maybe I gonna send an Email with pics to them. Maybe they can help us. Though they have vacation til end of august.

I´m glad you like the Soddie. It´s not such such beautiful knife, than the knives I got from you guys. But it will make a good working tool. I sharpened it with 230 waterstone, 1000 arkansas stone and a strop without and with compound. ;)

The both I got by Wayne are both in a very good and fine condition. I like the feel of the handles on both of them. Both blades take a very, very fine edge.

Kind regards
Andi

I just have to say that Wayne is a class act, he immediately jumped in and helped me, and also threw in an extra knife for Andi-Thank you Wayne....thats a real nice knife you gifted there.

Yes, Duncan! There is nothing more to add. A great gesture from Wayne :)

Kind regards
Andi

Outstanding gentlemen, thanks for sharing. I know you all will enjoy your new treasures :D This is the best place on the net with the nicest folks around. The knives we carry may be the reason this is called the "traditional" forum but its one of the best examples of a double meaning I have found.

The older Schlieper knives are indeed GREAT users. They sharpen up easily and then hold the sharp edge very well. And the entire knife holds up so well too. None of my 50 or so used 'oldies' have any blade play or loss of snap. I love them !
The current production might be just as good, i don't know. But they seem to lack something that makes them less attractive and less enjoyable, almost like, no soul.
Now i'm on the look out for the Duncan/Andi vintage Schlieper multiblade. The first place i'm going to look is my own collection, scattered about as it is. I just might already have one.
The Schlieper Gent's knives and the ones they made for export to S/E Asia and South America are neat knives too.

Hey guys and Gals, ....
Ok Andi my friend, my apologies for being slow in getting some flicks up here, the last ones were slightly dismal :o
Andi...this knife is a little sharpie!! its going to get worked I can promise you this!
The Carl Schliepers were taken from a display board, they have a past that is evading us 100% right now, but there is one thing for sure tere is no denying the quality of these knives, Im glad I bought two, because if you get just half of the enjoyment I get from carrying this knife-you should fall for this knife quickly, for what seems a very simple knife...never fails to bore me eyeing it up, and its a pleasure to use!
I shot a few photos with your Hippekuiep ( spelling?) that you very kindly sent me along with my Carl Schlieper like yours , now please dont think the marks on the blade are sharpening marks...the blade Patina'd up real quick, and you have to keep an eye on this one-or it will rust on you, and my friend......this sharpens to razor....beautiful steel!:), Andi...Im proud to own this knife, and you WILL see this gal' earning her keep once in a while when I bang some photo's up of knives...here we go....

Andi, thank you so very much, and Wayne...once again thank you for joining in with such a lovely knife for Andi, this place is just wonderful, thank you everyone for just being part of our great Family we have here.

Hey Roland...how are you going?...now folks...speaking of great people-Roland is most certainly one of them!, and yes...I agree with you mate, those Earlier Carl Schliepers are absolute world class! I wish I owned just a fraction of them that you do Roland!

Hi Duncan!

Don´t worry about posting right now.

It´s nice, to see this nice fellow at its new home. The handles on this Hippekniep, made by Otter has the thickest handles I´ve seen on a Soddie (Hippekniep) so long. :)

I´ve decided to carry the Carl Schlieper tomorrow as an EDC and throw the #66 Moose out of sundays pattern (maybe next weekend). The knife you sent me is just great. I´ve used the punch/awl already in my work shop for several tasks. Duncan, the Carl Schlieper and the Otter Hippekniep are looking like old friends on your pics. :D

The place we are posting/writing here is just great. A great bunch of real gentlemen all around here.

This is the only Schlieper I own til now, in this age. The newer ones don´t have this quality in F&F. On this knife, there are no gaps, blade play or whatever... a great piece of cutlery.

Kind regards
Andi
