My son and I found this pocket knife while using a metal detector along the walking paths in northern va. I cleaned it up the best I could but any pointers on how to knock the rust off would be appreciated. Just wondering if anyone had any information on this? I know it’s in a horrible condition but I thought I’d give it a shot. Thanks in advance!

you might try boiling it in water, then soaking it for a few days in vinegar to break up some of the rust.
overall, it's a very cool find but I doubt you will be able to bring it back to a usable state.

It's a post WWII Scout pattern. I'd set it in an oil bath for a few weeks, then scrub away any loose bits, and try to open it. There is a real danger that the springs or frame might break though.

Looks like it may be an old Kamp King by Imperial.
Thats called relic condition...remove the corrosion and you won't have anything left.o_O
There are large section of the frame missing. If you were to try to open it, most likely the pivots would fall to pieces or the entire knife would start to crumble into bits.

I can’t see the pics for whatever reason. That said, there’s a product called “safest rust remover” tractor supply sells a version of it. They work really well, I use them all the time on old car parts.

Vinegar soak for 12 hours brush with a stiff nylon brush and repeat 3 more cycles. Then rinse thoroughly give a good soak with penetrating oil and you have a pretty cool paper weight.

Definitely dont trash it. Might be useless as a knife but it looks cool as hell and has some history behind it.

Unless you want to use it as a paper weight as is, I'd try the vinegar bath a few times and see what happens or some rust stripper if you have some at home.

If it falls apart, I guess it falls apart.
