Which better brand knives are made in America?

I want to buy a secondhand knife in the near future so I came to the experts.

Folder or fixed?
Designed by Americans and have an American headquarter, or entirely manufactured in the United States?

be careful. just about all the "american" manufacturers are importing and selling china and taiwan made knives under their name. i purchased a buck stockman pattern the other day which was made in china not realizing they were importing some of the stockmans from china now. i knew they were importing some of their clip on knives from china but i was suprised at this china made stockman. but i will give it credit, it is a well built knife. fit and finish are typical buck quality. but, its not just buck, gerber, benchmade, and kershaw all have some american made and china & taiwan made products in their line-up. some maker are more up-front about it like benchmade which sells its overseas made products under their "red" series. the "black" and "blue" series are still american made. im not sure but i think case maybe about the only "american" company not selling any foriegn made products.,,,VWB.

This is a complicated situation, as many lines now have a imported line they sell along with their own American lines.

Tell us the style you like, are you a tactical or traditional man? What size, and blade styles do you like?

SOG is foreign.

EMERSON'S! Keepem sharp
PS Mission knives, some Benchmades, some Bucks, Camillus, some spyderco's etc. etc.

Now out of business. Some of their knives were imported and some were made in the USA.

Schrade-Imperial is another. They were primarily a USA knife company, but also imported knives from around the world. After the company was dissolved, their name is now owned by an import company. The current Schrade-brand products are primarily Chinese imports, although there are some models contract-made by American factories.

Not certain, but I think all or nearly all Case and Queen knives are made in the USA.

I found a used griptilian for sale at another forum for 65. It looks like a 550 or a 555.

Did I overlook it or does bladeforum not have a classifieds section?

Look at Spyderco mini manix or Benchmade 710. Both made in the USA and are great bargains.

Found the 710 on BM site and I like it!!

A great choice. Chris Reeves Sebenza and Benchmade 710 are considered pretty much the gold standards of production folders. The little extra symbolic value :).

... how... how did you manage to find a D2 710 for $65?!
But that's ridiculous!

EDIT: It was for $110. Site used their marketing misdirection skills.
