Does anyone now anything about axes or hatchets made in czechoslovakia. I recently acquired a small hatchet and all it has on the head is a stamped "Made In czechoslovakia" If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. :)

Czechoslovakia was created at the end of WW-1. Nazi's occupied it through most of WW-2 then the Russians controlled it until the break-up of the USSR. Then was in chaos most of the time since, and is no longer called Czechoslovakia. So I would think the hatchet being in North American it was likely made between the wars.

There was a Czech military surplus "pioneer axe" (15") previously sold by Sportsmans Guide:

i know that in the pipe tobacco world, "czech" pipe tools are quite common, dont know what kinda metal they are made of though, but they are tough. i found and old in a pouch of tobbacco that my grandpa had for years, it was rusty but still useable.

As already said Czechoslovakia lasted from 1918 to 1992. That said also possible they didn't bother to change the stamp after that.
The Czech have had their time in manufacturing (notably weapons), but that probably doesn't mean much.
If made during Soviet era might be of questionable quality, on the other hand they made efforts on export products, so who knows?

Thanks for all the info :) I really appreciate it. I got the axe and a few others a year ago from a guy where I work. He said his father had it for many years and that the head was soaked in oil for quite a while. When I got it it had a beautiful black patina. The steel is hard but not too hard and it holds a great edge.

IMO there are two things in the world that czech are #1: handgun - CZ and beer - Pilsner Urquell
