Hey guys,

I just caught an interest in SOG knives and am looking at a few models..

are any still made in Seki Japan ? in particular, any chance the Pentagon is?

I'm thinking of ordering the Tech Bowie (Taiwan) and maybe a Pentagon..

Thanks.

I bought a SOG Seal PUP earlier in the year from Dicks Sporting Goods and that particular knife said made in Seki Japan

If you look at the pics on the sog website it shows a TAIWAN stamped on the Pentagon... has production of those been moved over now?

Oh good heavens! I saw the "new" Pentagon that is made in Taiwan! That looks awful! I love SOG, but it seems that every model that has been moved to Taiwan looks worse (in my opinion) than its Japanese counterpart. Well, I guess this means I'll never get rid of my Seki Japan Pentagon, Seal 2000, or Tech II. Maybe I should get a NW Ranger before that leaves Japan, too!

Oh, if you like the "old" Pentagon, I recommend snatching one up now from a dealer before they are all gone. Mine has a soldered cross guard (no gap at all!) so you might want to partake of the Seki quality while you can!

Yeah you're right, must've been a recent change. I wish production remained in Japan but at least the steel has been upgraded. Looks like the handle has increased in thickness too

Yes, the Pentagon recently moved to Taiwan. We did make a few changed to the design and upgraded the steel to AUS8.

Thanks for the info .. I just ordered a Pentagon.. how can I know for sure if it's the old or new one?

I'm hoping it matches the picture of the item, in which case it should be one from Seki

I always thought that since the Pentagon was designed for law enforcement backup, the "thinness" of the handle was good. I could be wrong though.

Turns out my order is for the Taiwan one .. anybody know of dealers that still have the Seki versions in stock?
