Forgive me but I am new to knifes .I am a 1911 Pistol shooter ,anyway I have heard some talk about some Spyderco knifes being made in Taiwan I thought they were American made?????

spyderco's are made in a handful of countries. USA, taiwan, china, japan, and italy off the top of my head.

Spyderco utilizes several locations to assemble their knives:

Taiwan,
Golden, CO USA
Seki City, Japan
China

It just depends what model you are considering as you will have to look to see where it is made.

I would not be concerned which location builds the knife as Spyderco only uses plants that meet their standards.

Incidently, I feel the Taiwan knives are some of the best quality in their line up.

Regards,
Jeff

Depending on what 1911 you shoot, there's a very slim chance that all of its parts were made in the USA (not talking smack, I love my Imbel-made 1911 frames). It honestly used to be a big deal to me - I wouldn't own a knife made in Taiwan. Then I bought a Sage 1 and a Gayle Bradley. I got over any hang-ups I had immediately.

Spyderco has their knives made in either-

-USA
-Taiwan
-China
-Japan
-Italy

Personally, their USA and Taiwan knives that come from them are the best.

Hi Jeff, Mt Airy,

Welcome to the Spyderco forums.

While we are always growing our US facility, we also make knives in the countries mentioned above. Finding makers good enough is a problem for us, so we'll take them wherever we can find them. We've tried many over the past 30 years and still only have a few. Have to kiss a lot of toads to find a prince. We are fortunate to have the makers that we work with. Each maker also has their production capacity, so often, models have to wait.
